That's all you can do yourself. Forget about the cultists, find those who you can get along with and help each other out. It's gonna be a long time to get through this for any non-fascist Americans.

Be the change. If you're American, take your money out of big tech, big corpo. Buy from local producers and family farms. Buy from coops. Buy from companies that didn't bow down to the anti-DEI diktats.

Coffee from a Canadian roaster, made at home.

I signed up for a CSA from a local farm finally. I'll have fresh veggies grown a stone's throw away for all this summer and fall. Meanwhile, I'm not buying American produce.

Keeping my money away from Loblaws and other Canadian oligopolies as much as I can, too.

I found one once in a kitchen of a place I moved into. Cleaned the rust off, seasoned it, used it. When the time is right and your heart is ready, a cast iron pan will find its way to you.

Carbon steel pans are also pretty cool. You also gotta season them and care for them. But they can have thin bottoms so they heat up quickly for stir-fries etc. Traditional woks are carbon steel.

No more non-stick cookware for me. Too paranoid about PFAS.

Everyone was doubting that Russia would invade Ukraine right until it happened.

When an idiot is in charge, prepare for idiocy.

Nice rock you live under.

Trump's been threatening to Anschluss Canada as the 51st state and been planning on tariffs and other fuckery to harm Canada. So a lot of Canadians are cancelling services provided by US-based companies and pirating entertainment instead.

So do they make one that doesn't send "u up?" dm's to Xi Jinping or no?

Local library here has streaming services with lots of classic movies (watched some Akira Kurosawa flicks). And other streaming services thru there have educational kids' stuff. Also, free museum passes. Telescopes. Musical instruments. Video games. Online newspapers and magazines. Pretty badass.

That's awful. Most people are polite enough not to tell people "hey you're fucking fat" to their face but will pester skinny people with rude jokes and comments allll the time. Doesn't exactly help with body image.

I used to be like this. But I got sick of looking like Christian Bale in The Machinist. Now working on looking like Christian Bale in Batman Begins.

Obvious missing element of the story: climate change.

Good article except the use of the propaganda term "oilsands", it should be "tar sands".

...the authors caution that the current pace of decoupling is insufficient to meet the global climate target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Less than half of the regions will be able to achieve net-zero by 2050

Azerbaijan’s president, Ilham Aliyev, told a climate conference in April: “Having oil and gas deposits is not our fault. It’s a gift from God.”

Maybe EVs are not a comprehensive climate solution??

Another huge hydro dam is being built in British Columbia, on Canada's west coast.

The article describes the coming destruction of farmland and wildlife habitat.

“We have to decarbonize our economy, but it can’t be on the back of flooding more river valleys.”

But as long as the economy grows, more sacrifice zones like this will be made. And if you don't like flooded river valleys, go take a look at tar sands pits or mountaintop removals.

Logging companies get to clearcut burned forests, including trees that survived the burn. Another way that capital can profit even from disaster. And the extractive state lays down the red carpet for capital to do it.

Specifically about coal plants.
