Two thirds of Americans voted Trump or didn't vote. "Most Americans" don't appear to give a fuck.

Also, "failing resonates with Democratic voters" does not have the makings of a great slogan.

We didn't have 4/5 of state legislatures when we had Congress.

If they don't get that it isn't acceptable now, nothing is going to convince them.

I don't get why failing even more would make the Democratic Party look good.

Do the people in these comment sections not grasp how Constitutional amendments work?

It requires two thirds of the Senate. Which Democrats have not had in the past half century.

That is why Democrats didn't try it when they had a majority. Because it would not work.

People really just want an excuse to blame Democrats for everything.

Reddit being popular is keeping the majority of people away from Lemmy.

When you get right down to it: people don't care that Reddit is selling their information, that the site itself is a piece of garbage, that running the site requires a bunch of no-life weirdos whose numbers will only increase going forward and whose power will likewise, or that the design actively encourages bots to the point of disincentivizing actual human beings from using it.

They want their memes, they want their news, they want their niche little interest subs and they want their porn. The simple fact is that lemmy is a smaller version of Reddit with fewer options and to the majority of people who don't care about their data or the objectively dogshit running of the site, there is no reason to cross over to Lemmy.

Until Reddit takes a Musk-type turn into being totally unuseable, lemmy will only see a trickle of users who are burned by Reddit.

Either Trump will boot Musk out because he can't stand the perception that someone is giving him orders or this will be literally the only time that he has not done the stupidly petty thing, because the one thing you can rely on Donald Trump to do is the worst possible thing.

I fully expected Trump to drag America in a farcical dictatorship if he was reelected.

I just expected it to take longer.

Not so much irony as in keeping with historical precedent.

Donald Trump isn't just evil. Donald Trump is stupid.

Not only does his agenda not further the interests of America, it doesn't further the professed values of the Republican Party.

The sole guiding principle of the Republican Party is: Hurt the right people.

I really have lost sympathy for any and all Republicans.

Trump's actions aren't merely soulless and evil, they are stupid. They run contrary to the interests of the United States on every conceivable level. Prices rise, others countries lose faith in us, our enemies extend their power over our allies. Even Trump's professed goals, such as combating China's power in international trade, aren't accomplished by his actions, considering he's putting a heavier tariff on Taiwan than the PRC.

Having sympathy for a Trump voter is like having sympathy for a grown adult who licks an electric socket. It's a waste of energy. You're putting more value on their survival than they are.

I would typically roll my eyes at something like this, but in less than two weeks Trump has taken great strides towards destroying the federal civil service, any semblance of a rules-based international order and our relationships abroad, while doing everything but publicly endorsing violence against his political opponents.

I would welcome fifty new Congressional districts, the overwhelming majority of which would vote Blue within an American political framework.

[–] HighFructoseLowStand@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago

Yeah, that does seem to be the tenor of it.

It might make me a terrible person, but I hate Trump more for how stupid everything he does is than how evil it is. Every step of the war he hurts us, econimically, diplomatically, bureaucratically. Even if he doesn't try an ethnic cleansing and self-coup, the damage he has done to democratic institutions, professional government and our place in the world is something none of us will live to see America recover from.
