The simple reality is that it is not possible to maintain good relations with the US. Donald Trump is an idiot and a fascist whose agenda is driven by his whims as much as anything else. Starmer could bend over backwards to appease His Orange Majesty on every issue and Trump would still fuck the UK just because.

And nobody who refused to accept it the first time will accept it now.

Unless there's a coup when the Supreme Court finds against Trump and he ignores them and Republicans keep Congress from holding him accountable the only way the Court will let them.

Let's be frank: it was a special election where about a tenth of eligible voters turned out.

Trump ain't gonna see an FDR level midterms victory, unless he manages to destroy the American democracy totally, but I wouldn't look at this as evidence of some major shift by itself.

This reflects one of the many flaws with the logic of people who thought Trump was only going to go after the criminals.

The thing about criminals is, they don't follow the law. It's in their interest to not be easy to find.

So, ICE, whose job it is to make Trump look good to his base by deporting brown people, don't go after murderers or rapists, because that is hard and they're barely qualified to begin with. They go after the people who are abiding by the law, whose exact legal status is unclear because our whole fucking system works against its own interests. They go against the people who are legal who Trump has stripped some status from. Because it's easy to find them and they're less likely to put up a fight.

They will continue to die and let their children die to spite the rest of us.

Why? What other reading is there?

With all the screeching Republicans do about Democratic corruption, you think Trump would treat prosecuting Adams like a slam dunk.

It really is like Trump is embracing corruption as a matter of policy.
