Zelensky offers to give up something he's about to lose anyways in order to gain something that isn't going to happen.

No offense intended to OP, but anyone who thinks the world works this way is hopelessly naive about the system we live in.

When it comes down to it, the reason all of these issues exist comes down to Capitalism (Imperialism, Neoliberalism, Fascism, NIMBYism, w/e flavor you want).

Good public transit is a great example because there are so many reasons we don't have it and all of them come down to Capitalism.

  • the failure of our Healthcare system for the poor, unhoused, and uninsured means that severely mentally ill people make public transit feel unsafe. Ditto for criminalization of addiction and high poverty in general.

  • The American government's reliance on the Petrodollar to control world trade promotes oil-based transportation options, especially inefficient ones that take more oil (since the goal is increased consumption, not efficiency).

  • A general lack of tenant's rights and a tendency for local governments to favor landholders and and business owners over working-class renters (who tend to be more transient and are less likely to buy out local politicians) means that more attention is given to individualized transport (car infrastructure) and less to transport methods more suited to higher density. Not to mention the fear the petite bourgeoisie have towards poor people, who might potentially use public transport to invade their walled gardens.

There are so many reasons even on top of these. They all come down to Capitalism; and, no, to the Liberals of Lemmy, I don't mean markets. Markets can do a lot of good when it comes to making efficient public transport, when managed correctly. The issue is the power that those with money (and not just the billionaires; the petty millionaires who own a couple strip malls is just as bad when it comes to opposition towards public transport) exert over our lives and governments.

Those probably aren't hairs you've eaten; long hairs tend to just fall into your shirt/pants and are worked up into your butt as you walk around for the day.

There is nothing uniquely evil about European organized religion until the so-called Protestant Reformation.

I believe we're building towards a revolution, but whether it is successful or not remains to be seen.

Despite what you might see from weird guys on the Internet, grassroots-level Socialist politics are as active in America as they've been since the Red Scare. Big Things are Happening. In parts of the country where 20 years ago there were just Anarchists doing drugs in bars and 5 radlibs attending City councils, there are explicitly Marxist political parties with dozens of members organizing protests and events that draw hundreds of attendees. Every year interest and applications grow exponentially.

They say we're supposed to have Revolutionary Optimism, but personally, I don't really care one way or another if we win - I'm just mad, I have nothing to lose, and I want to fight.

I love the use of the phrase "Kremlin talking point", as if the fact that the Russian government is saying something is evidence in and of itself that the statement is false.

The difference between such a machine and a worker is that the worker has the power to withhold their labor and a machine (or animal) does not. An animal will never show solidarity with the workers' movement.

I'm not saying that animal rights are bad. I'm generally in favor of them. But they have nothing to do with Marxism. In fact, I would call any call to have solidarity with a group incapable of or unwilling to have solidarity with the general workers' movement to be a form of Ultra-Leftism.

And I'd appreciate people not over-extending this analogy. Some workers are queer, or immigrants, or disabled. Most are female or colored. These are all people who have the agency and incentive to show solidarity with the Socialist movement. Animals have neither agency nor incentive.

That's not to say that there is no Marxist justification for working with or even making concessions to Vegans. They make up a significant part of the general left-wing movement and animal rights are a bargaining chip that may be used to gain their support when it is strategically necessary. And, again, I am in favor of some animal rights - I just recognize that that is coming from the moral side of my brain and not the scientific side.

Animal rights are not defensible as a Marxist point of view. The basis of Marxism is working people and others marginalized under Capitalism joining in solidarity and using their collective power to overturn Capitalism and establish a dictatorship of the working class.

While animals are marginalized under Capitalism, they can neither engage in solidarity nor do they have any power to express in a collective movement.

You may believe that exploitation is animals is immoral, but Marxism is not a moralistic ideology, and there is no direct Marxist justification for animal rights.

If you trained a machine to feel pain when mistreated, desire freedom, and fear death; but it would still perform its function for whoever exploits it, Worker or Capitalist; there would be no Scientific Marxist justification for workers to cease exploitation of the machine.

No. I think it's fine, but not a real alternative to Capitalism. It seems like the sort of thing developed by an anticapitalist who accepts the Capitalist framing of history ("Capitalism is just when you trade things or have money").

I would classify this sort of thing as Ultra-Leftist - a movement seeking to skip the necessary steps in the development of Capitalism into Socialism and Socialism into Communism by just "doing Communism" at the local community level and saying "Well if everyone just did it, we'd be living in a Communist Utopia!"

There is no skipping the steps. The abolition of work is the final step, not the first.

The joint is probably worse for you than the coffee because the smoke fucks up your lungs. But that's not a problem with the drug, it's a problem with the consumption method.

Howdy! I’m Drew, and I’m the administrator of a Socialist West-Marches DnD 3.5e Discord Server, the Axe and Sickle! The server is over a year old, has a dozen DMs, over 30 active members (and over a hundred lurkers), and hosts an average of 2 or 3 games a week. The game has an old-school, traditional fantasy feel.

Devastated by an unknown catastrophe centuries ago, the Ohm Basin is home to naught but monsters and outlaws. A retired adventurer from a foreign land has founded a town in the middle of it, and adventurers - such as yourselves - file into its tavern, the Axe and Sickle, to secure their own fortune! Plunge ancient depths to uncover lost secrets, thwart necromancers who build their strength away from civilization, and compete with fellow grave-robbers to loot forgotten tombs!

If you don’t know what a West Marches Game is, it is a style of DnD game where, rather than a static party that meets regularly and follows the DM’s campaign, the players themselves choose who to adventure with (and when to meet) for a single expedition before returning to town and disbanding. This is good for players with inconsistent schedules and interest, as it is an extremely low-commitment game. You don’t need to set aside any time in your schedule for this game on a permanent basis; just pick a time and day that works for you, one session at a time. And if you have the energy for anywhere between two games a week to one game a month or even one game ever, you can be accommodated.

The only things required are a Discord account and a mic. Prior DnD experience is not; everyone is welcome. For now, all games are run in English. The game is a safe space for Socialists but anyone is welcome as long as they aren't disruptive.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. We’ve recently expanded our DM team and are looking to run even more games than we do now, but to do that we need more players. We’d love to have you!

Is there any way to view all posts on a given instance (as if that instance was your home instance and set to "local"), and not just a specific community/communities you are subscribed to?

Specifically, my home instance is Lemmygrad, but I'm interested in ttrpgs and want to keep up with ttrpg.network. This instance is relatively inactive so I never see their posts on my front page, and it's content is spread over several communities. I want to be able to see what's going on there while still using my Lemmygrad account.
