Yep. Congress gave the U.S. Secretary of Education the right to do it. But the terrorist party and their illegitimate puppets in SCOTUS decided that, no, a Constitutional law passed by Congress was not valid because... reasons. Can't let those "libs" ever enact something that is popular, fair, legal, and beneficial...

So yes, everyone should blame SCOTUS and the GOP because they are solely responsible for putting us all in this horrible position.

Let me shill for the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, which aims to bypass the Electoral College and elect the president by popular vote. It just passed in Minnesota, and is 75% of the way to its goal.

In Michigan it's currently in the Upper Legislature committee, so if you're in the state contact your state senator to support it

Well, yeah. But it's good to see GOP deflection on this issue isn't working

[–] DarraignTheSane@lemmy.world 43 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I don't know that they're even trying. They don't give a shit what poor young people think, and their asshole supporters parrot that "they don't deserve it" and "they should've known better before they took the loan"... completely ignorant of the massive economic crisis the nation is facing because of it.

Everyone should pile the blame on the GOP and current SCOTUS. The only ones not blaming are the ones obviously loving the idea of watching this country go to shit aka their voterbase.

Young people blame the people who should be blamed. More news at 11.

(Hey millies and zoomers, you came in clutch during the last two elections. Think you can keep at it?)

Not only are conservatives to blame for the unforgiven student debt, they're to blame for the cost being so high in the first place.

[–] YoBuckStopsHere@lemmy.world 34 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Many people may not know why college tuition has risen, but it can be attributed to the decrease in state funding for higher education during the 1980s and 1990s. This resulted in higher tuition costs when the Gen X generation began attending college. As costs continued to increase, Millennials faced significant debt when they pursued higher education.

So happy to hear this. It’s frustrating how much gets blamed on the wrong people.

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 41 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I don't really see who the hell else they should blame? Jeff who always eats the last cookie? Steve who never makes a new pot of coffee after taking the last of it?

[–] C3ltic@lemmy.world 42 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Somehow this is the dems fault for not railroading republicans to pass their legislation.

Not the republicans for voting against it, but the dems for not trying hard enough.

Literally people in these comments posting dem voting records as some sort of gotcha as if McConnel and Co somehow have a better record

Good. Finally something those assholes didn't somehow get people to believe was democrat's fault

[–] SexualMastadon@lemmy.world 34 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I had 20k I’d saved up during the pandemic to pay off my loans. That was going to go towards my first house but it appears the party of family values wants otherwise.

[–] YoBuckStopsHere@lemmy.world 22 points 2 years ago

Well see you just need to win that $900 Million Powerball and the Republicans will do whatever you tell them.

[–] ColonelSanders@lemmy.world 31 points 2 years ago

This just in: People guilty of thing are accused of doing the thing.

No shit. It's their fault. SCOTUS and GOP should be blamed.

[–] Pavidus@lemmy.world 27 points 2 years ago

That's like saying "Millennials think the sky is blue."

[–] renrenPDX@lemmy.world 26 points 2 years ago

I'd say they're accurate.

[–] scarabic@lemmy.world 26 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Fortunately for the GOP they are so far ahead with the young voter demographic that they can afford a little blowback from the youths on this.

Bwaahhahahaha /s
