If how I work doesn't make my boss question his hiring practices, am I even trying?

My manager had rules about how many and how huge plush animals I could bring to work. They were never documented anywhere, but she loved to harp on things like that. On my last day in that job, I brought 2 huge plush friends to work on the argument of: "What are they going to do? Fire me?
Gotta get a gov't job. Then you can be as incompetent as you want and not worry about being fired.
