ringtones were big there for a while, but now it seems everyone just leaves them on default.

I've set my phone to have all notifications silent except for ringtones, which I like best :-)

my main ringtone is death grips - system blower (the train sound opening), and meowfey - from the start (a memey cat meow cover of the original) set for my partner.

Mega Man 2 theme. Phone is usually on vibrate but I put it into noisy mode from time to time.

I work in cyber security and I was spending the day in the SOC (security operations center, room full of nerds and a ton of monitors, everyone is watching security events). I left to take a piss and didnt take my phone. Someone called and ringtone played at top volume while I was away. Upon return I was greeted to half the room thinking it was funny the other half being most irritated with me. I was a director back then, so they couldn't really say too much (I mean, I wouldn't have cared, but corporate pecking order) which made it all the funnier.

It's like dun-dun dun dun-dun-dun dun dun dun-dun. DUHN-DUHN DUHN-DUHN-DUHN-DUHN DUHN DUHN DUHN-DUHN.

  • Phone call: Circuit (from iOS, copied over from when I used an iPhone)
  • Notification: Pizzicato (mostly for nostalgia)
  • Alarm: Argon (sometimes have to switch it up or I'll sleep through)

In practice, it's on silent at the office and vibrate elsewhere.

nice. avatar beat was my ringtone for ages

[–] semperverus@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

Third Sanctuary from Deltarune by Toby Fox.

There's a lot of emotional investment in that song at the moment. And the ringtone is just the very first riff on repeat, as that part sounds like an actual ringtone (wondering if that's on purpose)

This song is famous for having an absolutely insane time signature that somehow works, as shown in this visualizer: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=De0FDShxgrs

[–] HiddenLayer555@lemmy.ml 2 points 10 hours ago

The default one. Haven't even opened the ringtone page in the settings.

[–] Million@lemmy.zip 2 points 10 hours ago

My ringtone is now default. But for a long time it used to be the aqua teen hunger force "dancing is forbidden" song, without the starting noise of the baseball bat destroying the radio.

My alarm is also some default now, but it used to be a 5 second long loop of the EVE online shield alarm closely followed by the hull alarm .

My phone is always on vibration since 4 phones ago. If I miss it I'll call you back, If I don't that's your answer

[–] rotorwashed@lemmy.zip 3 points 15 hours ago

The satellite phone ringtone from Jurassic Park 3.

[–] huf@hexbear.net 2 points 15 hours ago

tristram from diablo. it's great cos i seem to be the only one with it, so i never confuse someone else's phone ring for mine

[–] daniskarma@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 13 hours ago

Matrix ringtone.

So I can hope I can scape the simulation instead of answering to a scammer call.

[–] flop_leash_973@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

I found some generic guitar riff mp3 years ago I liked. Been using that on every phone since then.

[–] dosse91@lemmy.trippy.pizza 1 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

The default ringtone in LineageOS, but I use talk.wav from Quake (1996) for notifications, I love that sound

[–] SoulKaribou@lemmy.ml 1 points 16 hours ago

Indiana Jones theme

Every spam call is an adventure!

[–] uhmbah@lemmy.ca 1 points 17 hours ago

Old-fashioned Rockford Files ring.

If my phone ever makes a single sound without me having pushed 'play' on some media, my first impulse is to throw it into traffic. I feel the same way about my computer.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My call ringtone and text ringtones are pad noises from Star Trek. My alarm is the red alert sound.

[–] themoken@startrek.website 5 points 1 day ago

I used the communicator chime for a long time, but these days I'm basically permanently in do-not-disturb. My phone only makes sound when a close contact calls, or for a timer/alarm. Anything else can wait.

[–] PostProcess@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Portal theme tune, the one that plays through the radio when you are in the start habitat. Works beautifully.

Edit: https://archive.org/details/portal-radio-decompressed

There's this guy who I help with his computer and anytime he gets a text it goes "Hey good lookin! You just got a text!" which is fucking insane and also I love it at the same time

[–] mononomi 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Mario kart wii options sound lol, it's actually perfect for a ringtone

[–] okr765@lemmy.okr765.com 1 points 10 hours ago

This is probably the most catchy soundtrack for me in any Nintendo game. I will put the Mario Kart Wii disc in just to go to the options menu and listen to this masterpiece.

[–] lime@feddit.nu 3 points 1 day ago

that's perfectly annoying. same energy as the wii u chat tune

[–] Strayce@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 day ago

Silent these days. For a while I used the "black headcrab nearby" sound from HL2 as a text tone tho. Was fun watching people's reactions to it.

Back in the day I had my entire phone setup with a custom Metroid 2 sound theme that I put together from MIDIs, plus custom ringtones for my dozen or so most frequent contacts. I remember using Power Puff Girls for my wife, TMNT for her boyfriend, Sailor Moon for my girlfriend, and Little Honda for my dad.

Nowadays it’s on silent all the time so I don’t bother. :(

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

It's kind of silly, but a long time ago when I pirated more games and software, I stumbled onto one of these key generators for one of my programs that I thought just had the best chiptune lol. Anyway, it has been my ringtone for years and years now.

My text tone is the RCT1/2 notification sound. Works perfectly as a phone notification noise haha. I've had this one for years and years too.

[–] lime@feddit.nu 4 points 1 day ago

not silly, i'm using a midi from an old dos game!

[–] iveseenthat@reddthat.com 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] dingus@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

Unfortunately I don't know the name of it or anything lol. It's a pretty unremarkable tune all things considered...it is just nostalgic to me!

Star Trek communicator sound that I downloaded, haha

[–] darklamer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Me too, the original communicator from the 1960s!

I had a weird itch that I just had to get the KotOR 2 Telos Apartment Console Ringtone for my phone, but I couldn't find it until I just found some weird scuffed version on Zedge that also had the Telos cantina music in the background with it.

[–] Vanth@reddthat.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There's a ringtone from the Jason Statham movie Crank where he hears a ring and it starts distorting because he's high AF. That's my ringtone. I like the frequency sweep and discordance; it makes it easier to pick out of background noise for me.

[–] 0_0j@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

Link please

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Been rockin this for years, I will never change it

for my notifications I have a folder with all of navi's sounds from OOT, and I used to have a program that randomized them every time I got a notification, but something changed somewhere and I haven't been able to get that to work for a while.

Most of the time my phone is on silent but I use a custom recording of bamboo blocks as a ringtone otherwise.

[–] Raptor_007@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Technically default, but none of my devices make any sounds. Watch notifies me of events only haptically.

[–] tootoughtoremember@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)
