I think those rules are set down by the wealthy, to benefit the wealthy. The rules themselves are good in concept, but the ones who back them are selective about when and to whom they apply.
Being able to recognize exploitation and to call it out, is an unwritten rule that should be added to the lessons.

You forget that doing this would distance yourself from your entire social circle (or the other way around), to be replaced with people just like you describe.
