Just take the Japanese approach, require proof that your garage is big enough before selling you the car.
Just burn the world and be done with it.

That is the fucking point. Holy shot these people have lost the plot. If your car is 2x the size of a normal car then that should mean you suffer 2x the pain. Not everybody else. Next thing they will require garages to each have enough space for a private jet....

Everyone else does suffer the pain, though, because these people park on the street and effectively remove the left lane for several hundred metres at all times.
Or we could just make these child killers illegal in metropolitan areas.

Jeez, wasn't expecting a premier to say that crap. Not even a Liberal prem, although it's not as if Labor inspires much faith either.
When I built my house, I made the garage 8000x6000 even though the architect, builders and council all said I should do 5000x5500 or something absurdly small.
That extra metre of width meant that I had shelving down both walls of the garage, and I didn't need anywhere as much storage inside the house (space which costs more to build, heat and cool).
My neighbourhood is full of houses with little garages. Every single one of them is filled with shit and there is a car or two on the street. The backstreets are all half-duplex because of it.
Another BIG difference is that I have a 15A power socket next to my car. You simply cannot charge an EV on the street.
I live in an area with a lot of new developments and this is definitely a planning problem that needs to be looked at. Many roads constantly have rows of cars parked along the side because none of the owners use their garage (either because their oversized car doesn't fit or because the development is too tight to get in and out of comfortably).
If there are cars lining the streets, that's a red flag to build a damn light rail instead.

To be fair, it probably goes without saying...
Property Council SA is mentioned later in the article. And in this case, they are right, as this is another subsidy for people with gigantic vehicles that must be borne by all of the people that have smaller cars (or no cars at all).
You're right, I misread that line very poorly and was looking for car industry groups. Thanks!
