Every day I look at the news and the Don Cheadle version of Captain Planet looks more and more reasonable.

Ok for real I never knew what the cast was like for Planeteers because I was just a kid and now I'm stuck in the wikipedia page.

Kwame? LeVar Burton.

Gaia? Whoopi Goldberg (s1-3)

Rigger (Greedly's Henchman) was John Ratzenberger (Cliff from Cheers, been in nearly ever Pixar film).

Verminous Skumm was Jeff Fucking Goldblum in season 1.

Duke Nukem was Dean Stockwell. Dr. Blight was Meg Ryan. Tim Curry was her computer-thing.

It's always a fun surprise to go back to an old cartoon and recognize so many names you didn't know back then. I see several longtime voice actors like Frank Welker, Mary Kay Bergman, Maurice LaMarche, Cam Clarke, and Jim Cummings, plus some unexpected one-off voices like Phyllis Diller and Ted Turner.

Does the Republican Party have any redeeming qualities at this point?

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

i think we should replace "hurt the poor" or "tax the lower class" with "racist shit", as the first two are pretty similar.

There was also a Captain Pollution summoned by using the Rings of Destruction and combining their polluting powers of Super Radiation, Deforestation, Smog, Toxics, and Hate....

... yeah, sounda like their agenda to me

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 19 points 18 hours ago

Trump just made one all power ring to rule the Republicans. Called "I'll give you a bunch of money in foreign bank accounts if you vote for x"

They all caved.

Don't forget hating anyone who isn't a white, cis, hetero male.

[–] spunow@lemmy.myserv.one 30 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 10 points 17 hours ago

Or "Push Evangelical Theocracy"

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 11 points 18 hours ago

Not enough rings

[–] shittydwarf@sh.itjust.works 15 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Also three of the Planeteers would have their rings stolen and be thrown into a concentration camp

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 3 points 12 hours ago

Three? Who stays besides Wheeler?

Gonna guess Linka.

[–] rodneyck@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 18 hours ago

Not Captain Planet!!! What the fuck??!!?!??

So Capn Planet was all about the little guys, the minority, the trans, the gays, all of it!! How dare you plant words in his mouth??

I like this meme, but why?????

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world -3 points 16 hours ago

where "pretend like you are a democrat"?

[–] doingthestuff@lemy.lol -2 points 16 hours ago

Dems check at least four of those boxes too but what am I going to do about it? At least in my state I'm able to vote in whatever primary I think is going to have more impact. My choices in the primaries never get picked though.

1st voice: Doing nothing
2nd voice: tax the poor
3rd voice: Kiss Israel's ass
4th voice: Ignoring problems
5th voice: (snoring)

With our powers combined, we're the Democratic Party

[–] KindnessIsPunk@lemmy.ca 5 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (1 children)

The 'both sides' narrative is a trap that sabotages progress. Yes, establishment Democrats often disappoint. No, they're not the revolutionary force we need. But pretending they've done nothing while Republicans actively dismantle democracy is how we lose forever.

Democrats have:

  • $369 billion for green energy (largest climate investment in history)
  • Student debt cancellation for 4 million+ borrowers (despite GOP lawsuits)
  • Capped insulin at $35 while Republicans voted unanimously against it

And they did it while contending with

  • Republican-controlled House blocking everything since 2022 (2008 if you want to count the last time they had a majority bigger than a single vote to overturn)
  • Manchin/Sinema sabotaging key votes before that
  • A Supreme Court that's become a GOP policy arm

Republicans create systemic damage through tax cuts for rich, stacked courts and gerrymandering, Democrats spend years cleaning up, while getting blamed for 'not fixing it fast enough. Voters get disillusioned, GOP regains power, Repeat

We can demand better while acknowledging reality: Celebrate the IRA's climate wins and Push for Green New Deal Applaud student debt relief and Fight for free college Call out corporate Dems, without equating them with literal fascists Vote in more progressive Dems in primarys Like AOC, like Kat Abughazaleh and like Zohran Mamdani

But most importantly: STOP pretending incremental progress and active destruction are equally bad. That's not idealism it's suicide by political purity.

progress

Oh, progress. Well, progress is good, yeah. Progress, pffft.

[–] KindnessIsPunk@lemmy.ca 2 points 15 hours ago
