Overview:

Electric Vehicles are a key part of our tomorrow and how we get there. If we can get all the fossil fuel vehicles off our roads, out of our seas and out of our skies, we'll have a much better environment. This community is where we discuss the various different vehicles and news stories regarding electric transportation.

Imagine how many more miles it could do if it didn't have the aerodynamic shape of a brick...

The IQ weighs over 9,000 pounds

I'll bet it eats tires for breakfast.

“EU doesn’t buy our cars.”

Literally takes a Truck-license to drive that piece of garbage in most EU countries if not all.

[–] WhyDoYouPersist@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Yo dawg I heard you like microplastics

One commenter asked about the range at 80 mph, which makes little sense considering driving at that speed is illegal in most places, and presumably dangerous.

LOL - what a crock.

Many highways in the USA have a posted speed limit of 80. Don't know what glue that reporter is sniffing.

[–] IcyToes@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The article talks in MPH. Here in the UK speed limit is 70mph. I'm assuming 80 in the US is KPH?

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

No. I wish I could share your optimism in believing the US would ever adopt the SI. Or safe road regulations.

70 is pretty standard in the us, though it ranges from 65-85 ( top end is rarer for sure). Most areas I drive that's kind of the average speed, so there's many people doing 80+ in a 70 zone

Holy crap! More than 200kWh battery

That's 2 Kia EV9 long ranges!

[–] entropicdrift@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Also 3.125 Hyundai Kona Electrics!

[–] RvTV95XBeo@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago

Or 8.33 VW eGolfs!

[–] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 3 points 3 days ago

I hope they are illegal outside the us.

Claimed 2.7 miles per kwh @ 60 mph, seems quite high. I am assuming that's with the battery at optimum temperature, small run up to that speed with no more stop/start, likely a tail wind, air con off or very low, and a mostly flat road.

A vehicle that heavy a lot of stop/start is going to kill your efficiency getting that big fatty moving again. Trying to keep the entire car cool in a hot climate, doing the actual speed limit, and on more varied roads and you will be looking closer to 2 and probably under 2 miles per kwh.

Charging this thing at home if you are using most of that battery between charges is going to be brutal. Over 28 hours with a 7kw charger, 18 if you can do three phase and charge at 11kw. If you are just topping up every few days and not using the range regularly, then what on earth do you need such a large battery for?

If you are actually driving 10 hours at a time without any stops because you trying to max out the range, do you pee in a bottle?

Ah! Another child-splattering road tank for the rich. Mom will be safe driving to the post office at last.

965KM

So tempted to make a bot that converts these automatically :|

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Do it!

Especially useful for temperatures.

For miles, I mentally break it down like so; 1 + 1/2 + 10%. So sum the distance with it's half and add 10%.

I am always amused by other people's math shortcuts. There's just so many ways to do mental calculations. For all the deserved criticism "New Math" got, I do appreciate them adding mental math shortcuts in the curriculum.

You don't need a bot to multiply by 1.6.
You can do it, i believe in you.

[–] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

ah awesome it's that easy, you good to do it on every post here?

[–] Mac@mander.xyz -1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

...How else would i estimate such things?

[–] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Cheers! I duno if you're American but you have no idea how damn annoying it is, of all the countries that speak English of course it's the ONE country that uses backwards measurements that has the highest English speaking population

[–] Mac@mander.xyz -3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'm not your doctor but im going to recommend you start microdosing this:

[–] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Why? This subreddit is one of the few places I come across miles and the only place I consistently come across it, if I had a bot it could auto translate from miles to KM and then I can go back to ignoring miles all together :)

I know it's hard when the world doesn't revolve around you. :c
You can do it, buddy! I believe in you!
