Zohran will win the general, short of killing him there's nothing they can do to stop him

Once your enemies start out the gate with "terrorist" and "communist" and you still win with 12% and 2/3 of ranked choice votes, there's nowhere to go but up

The establishment left the door open by accident and incompetence, they're gonna regret this for a generation

i mean the current plan looks like they're going to make up some bs to de-naturalize and then deport him

[–] thethirdgracchi@hexbear.net 43 points 2 days ago (10 children)

If Zohran has any sense and is "hiding his power level" even a tiny amount, he needs an armed guard of committed socialists like yesterday to prevent this exact scenario from happening. If deporting him is at all hard for ICE to do without making it into a big public Incident, they'll have to come up with some other shenanigans unless they want riots in NYC.

[–] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 32 points 2 days ago

Yeah you honestly just need to be able to delay it enough to make it a large scene. I don’t think the residents of New York City will allow ICE to take him. A few million people all focused on making sure your goons can’t kidnap one specific figure would make things very difficult

[–] heresiarch@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

People who know people who would know have confirmed to me that he does have a security detail.

[–] thethirdgracchi@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago

But can that security detail be bought? If you're a high profile socialist, you need committed socialists as security.

[–] OnceUponATimeInWeHo@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

From allied universal or from personal allies?

[–] jack@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

It would be pretty fucking embarrassing if they trusted Allied instead of training some long-time trusted comrades.

i dont really disagree but who though? FRSO seems like an org that would be willing, and maybe even able with how secretive they seem to be, but they're tiny from what i can tell and i'd be very surprised if they want to bring down the state on their head for a DSA member. PSL might have the size (no clue what their new york chapter is like though), but i have seen nothing to suggest that they have any sort of armed wing/training and seem very unwilling to do so, at least from all the protests i've seen. CPUSA are the biggest fraud sheepdog of the democrats of all time, and if DSA (and especially NY DSA) ever provide armed socialists to anyone anywhere i might have a heart attack and die on the spot in shock. who's even left? IMT/RevCom? too busy selling news papers. SRA? it honestly isnt a real org and is pretty small anyways. only other org i can think of is john brown gun club tbh lol

[–] thethirdgracchi@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Dual power, Zohran has to build it himself tbh. He's the new mayor in all but name, if he wants to enact his agenda he's going to need to take on the biggest gang that actually runs NYC, which is the NYPD. He's gonna need goons for that. If he's got any brains and is actually serious about enacting an even remotely socialist agenda he needs armed goons like a supervillain, and they've gotta be loyal to him. I don't think you'd be able to get an org to do this.

[–] RedSailsFan@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

i mean in this scenario they deport him before he even gets to run for general election he doesnt have time to do this

[–] thethirdgracchi@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago

I mean he's got time to build an ideologically committed security detail like right now. None of that is dependent on him being mayor.

As someone who has been in several of the struggle sessions around him, I don't think he's the second coming of Lenin, but from what I've heard about his plans for NY, I generally think his position will be useful as long as attempts to implement them occur. He'll either get them through, which I think would increase leftward support, or he'll get ratfucked in the most blatant manner possible. Both are useful for agitprop. The only thing that would be a net negative, in my opinion, would be bending the knee.

From some of the vids I have seen come from him, it does seem like he's already planned around getting ratfucked to some degree when attempting to implement change and use it for agitation, but frankly, I've been busy, so I haven't consumed enough to take a hardened stance.

I worked on the campaign and can tell you with certainty that he has been prepared for resistance and ratfuckery all of the way

[–] RedSailsFan@hexbear.net 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

/gen is he prepared for them to bring the full violence of the state down upon him??

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

There has been discussion on detainment long before today’s Trump statement on denaturalization and deportation of Zohran

[–] marxisthayaca@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Tell him he rocks. And to clone himself and send us a cowboy Zohran.

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

There are a million cowboy Zohrans for those with eyes to see them

[–] thethirdgracchi@hexbear.net 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

When are the Zohran Fedayeen sign ups coming for New Yorkers? Only somewhat kidding.

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

If you volunteer for the campaign enough you can def recommend some merch ideas and it will be considered. Just saying

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I've been unemployed and realized too late the campaign was paying canvassers $30/hr (per the job posting). I would have done that!

Now I'm just refreshing his jobs page hoping for something new. I'm tired of tech work anyway.

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 2 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

Don’t sweat it too much. Only a handful of canvassers were getting paid (less than 100 out of 50000 if I had to estimate) and it was mostly to have people on staff who were fluent in one or more of the rarer languages found around the city to reach enclaves of particular language speakers that were hard to find regular volunteers for.

If that does describe you though, keep your eyes on the site around the second half of this month. Some new positions like that should be opening up. It’s pretty much all assessment and drafting up strategy for the time being.

[–] HamManBad@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago

I feel like he's the best possible version of a DSA social democrat. He's also really good at cable news interviews in a way that you almost never see. His ideology and demeanor actually reminds me a lot of Michael Brooks who had also planned on running for office in New York, and Brooks was fundamental in my radicalization

[–] 9to5@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I think Mamdani is the 2nd coming of Lenin buddy-christ ....jk. Unless thinking-about-it

[–] MizuTama@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'd love to be wrong about that lmao

[–] 9to5@hexbear.net 29 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (4 children)

Mamdani will singlehandedly build socialism in one state. The City of New York will become the beating heart of the revolution that ends the American Empire. Great man theory ? Its time for great Mayor theory

[–] quarrk@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago

NYC, the capital of Capital, would be a poetic start of socialism in the US if that were to happen

[–] MizuTama@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Okay, but who will slam Lenin for his take on municipal socialism once that happens?

Zohran has the mandate of heaven

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 34 points 2 days ago (1 children)

“For every brunch lib we lose in Williamsburg, we’ll pick up two non-voters struggling with rent in Queens!”

[–] spectre@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Not to take away from the bit (more to get it dialed in so we can use it for the next 5 months) but wasn't Williamsburg a blowout for Zohran?

[–] thethirdgracchi@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah Williamsburg was a total blowout. The bastion of brunch libs is the Upper East Side, that went heavily to Cuomo.

[–] spectre@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago

Thanks I'll start practicing the line accordingly

[–] adultswim_antifa@hexbear.net 40 points 2 days ago

He also got more votes in the first round than anyone got in all rounds. Of course the demonrat party hates him and will probably make him lose somehow.

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 34 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Time to reach across the aisle and vote for a republican

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 41 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I really hope everyone everywhere who unfortunately has liberals in their life makes sure to constantly point out the incessant and desperate attempts at ratfucking and how weirdly coincidental that the democrats only and always do this when it's an actual left wing candidate, but those exact same people expect us to support their right wing ghouls "to beat the republicans"

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 26 points 2 days ago

Yeah weird how they can all of a sudden rally to remove Jill Stein off the ballot or prevent someone from becoming mayor of New York, but they can't remove Trump from office for literally any reason 🤔

Democrats: "This is terrible."

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

His victory would make him the second Socialist mayor ever in the state of New York.

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Both recent ones have been DSA members and both in the past 40 years

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (5 children)

I stand corrected. He would be the fifth Socialist Mayor in the state of New York. The first was from the now defunct Socialist Party USA in 1911.
