We don't like it much either

Should not be necessary; anyone should be able to get the healthcare they need. But still very happy for him and lots of respect for the club.

Alternative headline: Orphan crushing machine temporarily paused for one man.

I'm happy for him and it's great that the Dodgers are helping him out like this, but the fact that it's necessary in the first place is fucking GROTESQUE.

dodgers also repelled ice from entering their stadium, they're pretty woke. more people should be like the dodgers

I can't help but notice the hint of orphan crushing machine in this.

You're right, but people doing good things in a broken world is something to celebrate.

[–] entropicdrift@lemmy.sdf.org 81 points 12 hours ago

Yeah, for real. This is only wholesome if you ignore the dystopian context

[–] DancingBear@midwest.social 3 points 7 hours ago

Is there a community for that in lemmy

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 77 points 12 hours ago (4 children)

Sooooo, a week ago the Dodgers refused ICE entry to the ballpark.

Now I see they continue to keep signed a player who hasn't played for 7 years, and lets be real, likely never will again. Just so he can continue to recieve the help he needs.

Ya know.....it's real hard to paint the Dodgers in the same camp as the Yankees and the Astros as being the villains of the MLB, when they keep putting good out into the world.

Goddamnit, as much as I love this, as a lifelong Giants fan, I hate that these stories make me feel positive feelings about the Dodgers

[–] _AutumnMoon_@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

This is the first time I've heard the Astros put on the same level as the Yankees what did I miss? lol

[–] Monument@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 4 hours ago

Unless something else happened, it has to do with the sign stealing scandal

[–] ToastedCoconuts@piefed.blahaj.zone 27 points 11 hours ago

It's incredible that they are doing this for him. Schizophrenia is one of those disorders that is incredibly difficult to manage, because the person doesn't often recognize that there is something wrong and they need treatment.

It runs in my family, and can really be devastating without enough support.

I grew up absolutely hating the Yankees. As an adult I work sports broadcast and was working on a Yankees' show, they couldn't have been any nicer...it was really disappointing to see how nice they are.

The cardinals are monsters though.

[–] protist@mander.xyz 9 points 10 hours ago

St. Louis doesn't have anything else going for it. All their eggs are in the Cardinals basket

I'm so happy to read this! This will be expensive for them and they don't have to do it but they are. Thanks for sharing!

this isn't new. read up about arsene wenger and santi cazorla at arsenal.

wenger is known to have given broad coverage to his players.
