Need Android Launcher Recommendation

Is there a Android Launcher that supports

  • organize app icons in bulk
  • automatically add newly installed app icon to homescreen
  • an option to add all already installed app that aren't on home screen to home screen
  • easy to organize app icon on home screen into folders
  • easy to organize app icon on app drawer into folders (may not be necessary)

appreciate any helP

Not that this is what youre looking for, but Olauncher has done a great job of keeping me from being too distracted by my phone. All apps are in a text list, no colorful icons or red dots to grab your attention when they shouldnt.

Its surprisingly intuitive to use too.

Give Lawnchair a try. I use the nightly but it's a bit unstable, you should be fine on v14 beta 3 though

"Organize app icons in bulk" is a bit unclear to me, but I think at the very least this will tick most of them

it is the smoothest in all that I have tested. But it doesn't support "automatically add newly installed app icon to homescreen" which bothers me a lot

By “Organize app icons in bulk” what I meant is to rearrange multiple apps at once, long-press on any app icon or on the home screen itself until the device enters jiggle mode. Then, drag one of the app icons to an empty spot on the screen. While keeping a finger on that app icon, use the other hand to tap any additional apps that need to be relocated. As more icons are tapped, the home screen will create a stack of apps under the finger, along with a number indicating how many have been selected.

It does have the ability to add new apps to home screen, but this may only be in the nightly for now. It does unfortunately not have a jiggle mode like iOS, but I find that it's fast enough to hold it for a moment longer to move apps that I don't feel too much of a desire for it

That is good to know, thanks a million

I have installed Lawnchair nightly. But when it loads only 3 apps icons are shown in home screen. It seems that I need to manually drag and drop all my 50 icons from drawer to home screen. is this the default behaviour. Is there a way to add all icons directly to home screen?

Also I have enabled it in the setting. But my newly installed app from f-droid doesn't show automatically on my home screen which seems to be a strange behaviour. Maybe a bug?

Ah I think I see what you're going with here. Try turning on "deck" mode shown in the same picture above. That'll place all apps on the home screen and disable the drawer completely. Bypasses the need for automatically adding new apps too

Edit: heads up, there's a reason it says beta next to it. Definitely quite new for the app

thankyou very much

I'm gonna piggyback on this and ask for a launcher that does everything as normal except I can swipe to the left and access another app pane?

much appreciated

but it doesn't seem to support grapheneOS I will take a look at it in the future

With these restrictions you're gonna get about zero recommendations that match. I'll still recommend Niagara or Minimalist Launcher. They just give you an alphabetized list. No more app junk drawer as your home.

[–] happeningtofry99158@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (1 children)

that is very sad to hear, as organizing apps into folders is very essential for me. Do you have any recommendation for a smooth experience of organizing apps into folders? (without those restrictions)

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Theres gotta be a launcher somewhere for you on F Droid. Thats just not my workflow so I ignore those features. Maybe something like Fast Draw? I see one on F Droid called Folder Launcher that claims to be inspired by file structures. Though its only pictures feature Kuromi and dont show off what it does. Shelf might also work for you. Take all this with a grain of salt as I use Niagara.

[–] happeningtofry99158@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

thanks a lot

for those who are interested

  • Folder Launcher doesn't have a home screen for showing icons, it only shows app name in a folder structure
  • Fast Draw have little customizibility in terms of organizing into app folder, it have limited categories represented by different category icon and does not support folder group under categories

It does not tick all boxes, but I think smart launcher might tick most boxes. I've used it for almost a decade now. Drawer is organized into categories automatically. Which makes my home screen a single page, and everything is easy to find. The search works great for apss not easily found

[–] happeningtofry99158@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Many thanks, but according to https://youtu.be/dK1YTsUdd1w, smart launcher doesn't seem to support drag app icon onto another icon and automatically create a folder with 2 icons in it. We can only create a separate folder first and then put icons in it
