Bar tender! Gimme a virgin scotch on the rocks

Loudly chews ice cubes over quiet smooth jazz in a completely empty cigar lounge at 10am on a Tuesday

Gets up to leave, leaving a $5 tip entirely in silver dollars

Yeah this is it, nobody calls anything else by it’s chemical name

[–] fox@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Counter: it's the shortest chemical name for any liquid you're likely to run into. Ethanol is CH₃CH₂OH

Sometimes ethanol gets abbreviated to EtOH (Ethyl and hydroxyl group). Which is longer to say but more satisfying than Ethanol.

[–] Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 5 points 3 days ago

In the UK we'll sometimes call it 'council pop'

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 14 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Actually here you sometimes call it "Goose wine" or "Municipal beer" if you're asked for your drink order.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 9 points 3 days ago

Geese have good taste.

[–] SootySootySoot@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

aqua vitae

that's booze. That's a distilled spirit in common parlance or just alcohol in alchemy.

[–] Lemmygradwontallowme@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ain't that the origin for the term, whiskey?

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 4 points 3 days ago
