The box is made from reclaimed wood, and she is super happy with it.

Such a lovely thing to make! It's very nice!

FYI - In .y experience it's a bit small for a good seed collection.

The proper size would be around 1/2 of your house.

I much prefer a index card like arrangement for seed packet storage. A pile makes getting an inventory of the contents very hard and I don't keep an inventory of my seeds.

I appreciate that you did the hinges properly instead of just screwing them to the back.

[–] foliumcreations@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I tried doing them properly, but managed to fuck up the alignment. So what you are seeing is a fix, they are actually mounted on the out side. Sorry to disappoint you.

But your next hinges will be better yet. And I learned what to do the next time I mess up my hinge install. Which is likely the next time I attempt a hinge install. 😉

The hinge mortises look aligned to me. How are they misaligned?

[–] foliumcreations@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They where ever so slightly off , and not deep enough. So the lid didn't close properly.

How'd you cut them?

It's beautiful, and such a sweet thing to do for your wife!

Thanks so much! And nice to know my work inspired someone.

Great idea. I might copy it.

[–] foliumcreations@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yes please do! I didn't make any plans for it just sort of designed it as I went. Otherwise I would have shared the plans.

If you like sharing, (in the future) you can always take photos and put it up on instructables.com.

@foliumcreations Looking good! Did you cover the hinges with a darker wood?

[–] foliumcreations@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

How did you do the hinges like that?

[–] foliumcreations@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You try to do them on the inside, fail , then mount them on the outside and insert different color of wood to make it seem intentional.

And here I am, keeping my seeds in recycled baggies in an old cigar box. :)
