Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

FAQ

I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?

What can I post?

This was asked before and I saved the link somewhere, but where can the Hexbear emoji database be downloaded for personal use on things like Signal?

I'm so Hexbear-poisoned I don't even think in normal emojis anymore, just want to spam :Mao-Shining: with my friends.

The current struggle sess on twitter about wages in the imperial core showed the chauvinism of quite a few "leftists", god forbid someone mentions that there is other ways to empowers the workers in the imperial core than just rising the minimun wage

[–] homhom9000@hexbear.net 6 points 11 hours ago

I had to question my own politics because it seems so obvious that raising wage is no end goal for anybody. My salary basically doubled in the past 5 years, you know what else did ? My rent. I would gladly take half of my salary if it meant I had little to no rent.

I'm glad the left is starting to talk policy now in lieu of catchy slogans though.

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago

You'd think that people would see that given how expensive it is to survive even in places that have raised the minimum wage. Like, yes its an important fight, but in the end its an extremely small part of a much larger class struggle. Its the same with free Healthcare. A lot of" leftists" trip over themselves to support any run of the mill socdem imperialist as soon as they say the support it.

"DUDE ARE YOU SERIOUSLY DEFENDING THE BARBARIAN SAVAGES OF AFRICA? THEY EAT HUMANS DUDE, I HAVE A COUSIN THERE AND THEY PUT HIM IN A BIG POT AND ATE HIM, CAN'T BELIEVE YOU LEFTISTS WILL SUPPORT EVEN BARBARIC CANNIBAL REGIMES IF IT MEANT IT'S AGAINST THE EMPIRE" - British man in the 1800s who I depict as the wojak.

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I don't care how good once upon a time in Hollywood may be.... That disrespect to bruce lee made me throw it in the bin. You know how many of us in Africa got inspired to do martial arts because of that man and how he resonated with a lot of us? Yeah tarantino was a fool for that one.

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 6 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I also was immediately pissed and turned off by that scene. Couldn't enjoy the movie, just seemed like racist fantasies to me. No way Brad Pitt could beat Bruce Lee, what the hell. Haha

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 6 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Swear I don't know what pissed me off worse... That bruce lee is portrayed as a bully when he was anything but, or that he loses in that manner. His family didn't like that shit. That tarantino goof loves using the hard R in his movies and went hard for Polanski. Swear its been fuck him for the longest time.

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 5 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Totally agree. I loved Kill Bill and Reservoir Dogs when I saw them as a kid, still enjoy them, but Tarantino is overrated and on borrowed time.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 4 points 13 hours ago

Tarantino is overrated and on borrowed time.

Personally, I think he's the most overrated director of all time. I think his only good movies were Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction. Everything else is just scenes lifted from other directors cobbled together, then he has everyone die at the end because he doesn't know how else to finish a story. A lot of his movies start off great, then turn into parodies of themselves by the end.

His support of Isreal, support of Polanski, and problematic writing make me hope he falls off a cliff. I think he was also involved with Harvey Weinstein, but dodged #MeToo allegations because he stays out of the public eye. Uma Thurman's interview about how he treated her on Kill Bill should have ended his career.

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 5 points 15 hours ago

Shit how much of kill bill had bruce lee inspiration i-cant

[–] Lemmygradwontallowme@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I recall Tarantino tried to also complain, and I'm paraphrasing, "Bruce Lee wanted to use real, hard force in his fighting moves against stuntmen, during choreographed fights" {note: this is typical in HK kung fu movie production, not limited to Bruce Lee}

Like what are :cracker: proving? That HK kung fu fighters and even their stuntmen are the real deal, when it comes to giving and taking blows to and from others?

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Then tarantino says cliff would have killed bruce lee in a fight because hes a world war vet. Mate bruce lee was a competitive boxer and would have gone far. He's one of the most influential figures of mixed martial arts. Hell hes had legit fights with other martial artists that he's won like wong jack man. More white male fantasy shit. How many soldiers even really used close combat? There was that American dude in the North korean war but other than that? They're tough but their training is mostly split in weapons etc. See videos of navy seals sparring pros its embarrassing.

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Hell look at jackie chan movies. Those hits were fuuuuucking hard. Like his fights against benny the jet urquidez that shit had nasty blows from the takes. The speed they went at was insane. Hollywood is not sniffing a lightyear of the atyleticism, coordination, speed of that kind not even with all the slow motion and camera cuts they use in movies. And before joining those stunt teams you had to be extremely proficient at martial arts.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 7 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Jackie Chan breaking his foot from that jump he did for Rumble in the Bronx is proof of his abilities. Not only did he make that jump, anyone else would have died even trying to do it. There's problems with actors doing there own stunts, but holy shit Jackie Chan does all his own stunts lmao

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 6 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Facts. To this day idk how jackie is still alive. In armour of god he fell from a tree, fractured his skull and a piece of bone pierced his brain. He should have died on that set. The guy is straight up superhuman.

[–] la_tasalana_intissari_mata@hexbear.net 7 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

he also said he wanted to join the Communist Party of China

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 6 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah thats why a lot of these Americans in the martial arts scene were mad at him because his father I think opposed the CPC if I remember right

[–] la_tasalana_intissari_mata@hexbear.net 5 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Imagine WWIII happens and China air drops one soldier at Pensylvania... and it's Jackie Chan

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 5 points 11 hours ago

He reminds me a bit of that clown kakarot. If thats the case....... vegeta-stare

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 6 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

And Jackie was taking hits before he was a star too. Famously was knocked out by Bruce Lee himself, what an honor.

https://youtu.be/U8CtOqJy6xM

What an honor indeed

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 6 points 16 hours ago

Lmmfao fam I heard of that story and I'm like... Okay that makes sense. No shame. Jackie legit wanted a real fight with benny the jet. Benny the jet was a beast in kickboxing. Undefeated for years

I really don’t care what is happening in New York. And i especially don’t care if this person is “Muslim” who will work under the chains of the liberal bourgeois state. If all you need is some left-facing slogans to vote than I don’t know what to say.

Can’t wait for my country to get indebted to Wall Street banks and get “structurally adjusted” - but atleast the banks are under a city with a “Muslim” governor! All is well. - Felt the same when Sadiq Khan become London’s mayor.

and before anyone says why I have “Muslim” in quotes, I take the opinion of Houria Bouteldja of what it means to be a Muslim in the West:

spoiler so it doesnt take the whole chat

One of God’s names is “a l-‘Adl,” which means “The Just.” The idea that my father, Allah yrahmou, transmitted to me is that Islam is fundamentally an ideal of justice. So, to the question “Can one be Muslim in the West?” his answer (as well as mine) would have been a provocative “No.” The presentation I will make here is not that of an Islamic scholar, as I have neither the qualification for it nor the pretension to it. Instead, I would like to offer an analytical framework for understanding the interactions between the fact of being and calling oneself Muslim and the fact of being involved in politics. Wal-‘Ilmou lillâh.

If Islam is really this ideal of radical justice, then our presence as Muslims in the heart of the imperial city, in the heart of injustice, is problematic. In this context, perhaps we would have more humility if we saw ourselves as becoming Muslims.

Some of you may dismiss that statement since, at the individual level, you respect the teachings of the sacred book, the five pillars of Islam, the Sunnah and the great principles. These are indeed the bases of Islamic practice and they are fundamental to whomever aspires to belong to the Ummah el Islamiya. But I contend that there is a profound contradiction between the ideal of justice advocated by Islam and the material gains that we have achieved by living, to a great extent, off of spoliation of the South (in the form of wages, social redistribution or political rights). We are certainly not the main beneficiaries of North/South domination (the bourgeoisie is), and we are not even secondary beneficiaries (the white working classes are). We are the unwanted and collateral beneficiaries of this system but we still benefit, even while remaining in the margins.

When I say “we,” I mean this intermediate category between Whites and people of the Third World, that is, postcolonial subjects living in the West. Ancestors of colonized people and victims of structural racism in the North, they are despised, relegated, discriminated against but their burden is lessened, relatively speaking, because they enjoy the social, economic and political rights of liberal democracies. So I speak of “aristocratic indigenous people” not unlike those in white left movements who speak of “aristocratic laborers.” The first thing to do in order not to escape one’s conscience is to face reality in all its ugliness. And the first ugliness of this system is that none of us is innocent. But we are not guilty either because the world in which we live is a system that precedes us and will probably survive after us. We are not guilty, but we are responsible. We are responsible as human beings, we are responsible as third-people living in the North, and we are responsible as “potential” Muslims. In my view, it is based on this awareness and this objective situation in conflict with the Islamic principle of justice that we must forge politics. Here, I would like to introduce a distinction between social and political Muslims. The first are, in a large sense, cultural Muslims (they inherited Islamic culture because they were born in an Islamic environment—they practice or not or are converts) while the second are those who, in addition to having faith, are aware of their responsibility in a structurally unjust world. It is this second category that is the focus of my interest in this paper.

I’m not here to have a debate (because my mind is already made up), but i am just airing it out at the void really.

"We are certainly not the main beneficiaries of North/South domination (the bourgeoisie is), and we are not even secondary beneficiaries (the white working classes are). We are the unwanted and collateral beneficiaries of this system but we still benefit, even while remaining in the margins." This hits hard

A crime by colonizers, next to taking natural resources and the massacres they've done, is fighting intellectualism in its subjects... This is me ranting about my people not reading an article past a headline.

[–] Angel@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Finished writing the song... gonna mix it and share it later today. It only took me about 6 days to finish this shit—for real!

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (4 children)

I'm at a point where I don't bother with internet arguments especially over one's basic humanity. I just want to beat mfs to an within an inch of their life. You don't see lions argue with their prey so why bother? I'm wasting my time. Dudes arguing points that lead to ethnic cleansing and I'm no gonna be thinking about a witty reddit retort because if this were face to face most people avert their eyes to people like me for a good reason.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I just don't have the energy to argue over stuff online. I had a lot more patience when I was 20, but now? I've seen everything liberals and other reactionaries have to say to the point I can type out their responses for them. I don't mind explaining stuff to people asking genuine questions.

I'm just not in the mood to argue over why higher minimum wage is a good thing. Or what taxes are. Or why abortion should be legal and widely accessible. I've had these conversations too many times, especially with the libertarians all over the place when Ron Paul was running.

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Dudes like "oh so you don't like when your views are challenged" yeah I don't want to argue on whether my people deserved to be treated liked dirt. You've already lost and you know it. You have to look your child in the eyes everyday and justify these views to them subject them to living a life of fear that you lead. You lost and you drag everyone you love into a Maelstrom of hate and you normalize this poison. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy and you inflict this on your fam.

The fucking entitlement that they should be the final authority on rights because they can string fast senences and read Wikipedia

[–] Ath3ro@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

i wish upon people what they wish upon for others. You don’t think trans people deserve to live? Tough luck buddy i hope you fucking die before i ever try to convince you of someone’s basic human rights

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago

People arguing about free speech slippery slops are quiet when things are already off the ramp for trans people. Fuck outta here

Yeah

If politics deals with people's lives, why wouldn't we settle it out with people's lives?

thank you Vegeta
