Iran and Israel have struck each other many times over the last few days. There has been a general focus on military facilities and headquarters by both sides, though Israel has also struck oil facilities, civilian structures and hospitals, and in return for this, Iran has struck major scientific centers and the Haifa oil facilities.

Israel appears to have three main aims. First, to collapse the Iranian state, either through shock and breakdown by killing enough senior officials, or via some sort of internal military coup. Second, to try and destroy Iranian nuclear sites and underground missile cities, or at least to paralyze them long enough to achieve the first and third goals. And third, to bring the US into a direct conflict with Iran. This is because the US better equipped to fight them than Israel is (though victory would still not be guaranteed depending on what Iran chooses to do).

Iranian nuclear facilities are hidden deep underground (800 meters), far beyond the depth range of even the most powerful bunker busters (~70 meters or so), and built such that the visible ground entrances are horizontally far away in an unknown direction from the actual underground chambers. Only an extremely competent full-scale American bombing force all simultaneously using multiple of the most powerful conventional (perhaps even nuclear) bunker busters could even hypothetically hope to breach them (and we have seen how, in practice, American bunker busters have largely failed to impair or deter Ansarallah). There are several analysts on both sides who have concluded that it is entirely impossible to physically prevent Iran from building nukes.

I fully expect the US to join the war. I believe the current ambiguity is a deliberate invention of the US while they work to move their military assets into position, and as soon as they are ready, the US will start bombing Iran. After that, Iran's leadership must - if they haven't already - harden their hearts, and strike back with no fear, or risk following the path of Libya, Syria, and Iraq, either into either surrender, occupation, or annihilation. Every day where they do not possess a nuke is a day where lives are being lost and cities are being bombed.

update on the iran internet situation: it's basically already disconnected from the rest of the world. in the morning it's better and im able to (with some really specific configuration) connect, but otherwise after 6 pm it's dead.

on one hand in a statement they said that the disruptions are not because of cutting off the rest of the world but are due to israeli cyber attacks (which are not unfounded) but on the other hand many data centers became "iran access" (they can only access iranian ip ranges), as well as the normal restrictions they imposed right after the start of the war.

so if you guys aren't getting any footage to doompost over it's because the internet is broken. you can check it with netblocks to see when the internet is cut off.

New Simplicius report - Iranian Abyss: Will US Take the Plunge?

It's premium so I can't read it all but here's the key parts of what I can access:

  • Simplicius is now only more sure than ever that Israel expected the decapitation strikes to cause an immediate collapse, and when that did not happen, Israel was forced to go to Trump and get the US involved because Israel cannot handle a war of attrition with Iran (running out of interceptors to protect critical infrastructure)
  • Simplicius believes the current Iranian strategy is to deliberately slow down the conflict and fight to their strengths (a long war of attrition) rather than their weaknesses (a shock and awe campaign). This is a campaign inspired by Russia's actions in Ukraine. To conserve stockpiles, they send small volleys every day rather than dramatic overwhelming attacks that they can only do a few times before running out of missiles.
  • These small volleys are overall more effective as the social and economic pressure of constant sirens and forcing Israelis into the bunkers will deal more damage in the long run. Israel apparently went into this conflict expecting only 5000 settler deaths before Iran is defeated because they expected a giant wave from Iran that killed many people at once and provided a clear American casus belli.
  • There is no evidence to support Israeli claims of air domination over Iran. Israel is not flying planes over Iran for the most part; they are using drone strikes and cruise and ballistic missiles instead. This is supported by the fact that the footage we predominantly get out Israel shows drone video footage, and the numerous Israeli booster stages of missiles found in Iraq and Syria.
  • The only piece of footage that Simplicius has seen of Israel hitting Iran with aircraft is a video of JDAMs striking Kermanshah, just 100km into the border of Iran, which would have meant Israel penetrated a couple dozen kilometers into Iran to drop them.
  • Iranian long-range air defense has not been degraded at all. Israeli strikes are only evidenced on very old Mim-23 Hawks, short-range Karmin-2s, and the short/medium-range Khordad systems. The Bavar-373, an S-300 equivalent, shows no physical/video evidence of being degraded beyond mere Israeli claims, which are always very suspect.
  • To be fair, this is because Iran has very probably withdrawn their long-range systems east towards Isfahan to protect against potential US bombing, and Iranian heavy missile launchers are following them east for the protection.
  • Israel can't safely fly directly over Iranian territory; they couldn't even safely fly directly over Syrian territory until Jolani let them destroy Syria's air defense, which was substantially weaker than Iran's, and had to bomb Syria from behind Mount Lebanon before then. The US also could not safely fly over Yemeni territory, with F-35s launching stand-off strikes before they reached the border.
  • That all this began shortly after Iran finished its major rail link with China is not a coincidence; deepening connections with the East represents an existential threat to the Western program to isolate and weaken Iran that they've been enacting over the decades.
  • The West not only hopes to destroy Iranian nuclear sites, and not only wishes to enact regime change, but seeks to permanently divide Iran into a series of statelets from which it would be kept under pressure by dividing ethnic groups, preventing a future reconsolidation of the country.

There's then a section on what the US can and cannot do but my free access ends there.

Simplicius also seems pretty sure about Iran's abilities and about Israel's weakness where he's posted on Substack and Twitter.

Israeli is giving off quite a few serious tells right now regarding Iran’s success thus far, and I think they are worth discussing.

We are hearing that Iran is firing a handful of missiles at a time now, 3-12ish range. Despite censorship efforts by Israel, we are still getting a slow drip of footage of these handfuls of Iranian missiles connecting with targets in Israel. From this, we can deduce that Iran is having a much higher success rate than earlier barrages, because it certainly doesn’t seem like we have seen that many fewer impacts comparatively.

Additionally, we’ve noticed fewer anti-missile defense munitions in footage of missile barrages. While some areas like Tel Aviv will still have a high ratio of anti-missile munitions to missiles in the air, we are seeing fewer around military installations and other places outside of Israel’s urban core. We are also seeing attempts to use cheaper intercept munitions on ballistic missiles, and have had footage of kinetic intercept munitions connecting with Iranian ballistic missiles and literally getting shot straight through while the missile continues on unaffected.

To me, this screams that Israel believes Iran is in this for the long haul, and that Israel is concerned about anti-missile munition stockpiles. On top of this, the media/internet censorship of Israel accompanied with banning citizens from leaving the country on flights is also telling that they are very afraid of creating a mass panic and exodus from the country. Personally, I believe that Israel and Iran have both identified Iran’s win condition: shatter the myth of Israeli superiority to their neighbors and scare enough people away that Israel begins becoming unsustainable.

Israel literally used a tank to fire upon starving palestinians.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c74zj9kv2xjo

A local journalist and eyewitnesses said Israeli drones fired two missiles, followed shortly after by a shell from an Israeli tank positioned between 400 and 500m away from the crowd. The explosions caused many casualties.

And no one in power will give a shit. Just another fucking day here in the Empire.

The Cradle: Pakistan breaks ranks, backs Iran in war with Israel

There's a lot in this article, so to summarize, it looks like Pakistan is rapidly aligning with Iran in a kinda informal way. Both the political class and the population generally support an alignment with Iran, which is surprising because earlier this year, Iran and Pakistan had done a little tit-for-tat, striking targets (extremist groups) within each other's countries. It seems like that exchange, amazingly, left them both fairly satisfied and happy with each other - or perhaps Pakistan's exchange with India earlier made them realize that they do need allies, and Iran can be counted on.

While Islamabad has offered no formal commitment of military aid to Tehran, Iranian media and parliament are now rallying around Pakistan with chants of “Pakistan Zindabad.”

Now, this part is insane:

Speaking to The Cradle, Abdullah Khan of the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) reveals that Israeli drone operators had recently attempted to sabotage Pakistan's nuclear facilities during the India–Pakistan crisis:

“Israeli drone operators were stationed in Indian operation rooms during the recent Pakistan–India conflict, trying to target Pakistan’s nuclear facilities. However, prompt action from Pakistan thwarted their efforts, preventing them from causing any damage to the nuclear assets of Pakistan.”

Death cult, indeed.

Anyway, I was initially skeptical of claims that Pakistan would nuke Israel if Israel nuked Iran, and I'm still a little skeptical that this would actually happen (as presumably, Pakistan would also get nuked by Israel in return, and then that just creates a whole shitload of issues to put it mildly), but a senior Iranian general basically confirmed that this was true, and I can't imagine that's a thing you just throw out there unless there's some rock-solid support or guarantee. Even Russia hesitated for a bit in giving Belarus access to Russia's nuclear umbrella (I believe waiting until Finland was de jure in NATO, though my timeline might be a little skewed), and Lukashenko has been unquestionably Putin's ally this entire time.

Also, I like this response by a Pakistani official to Iran's version of Guaido:

“If Iranian people are energized and motivated, according to you, show some balls and go back and lead them and remove the regime. Put your money where your arse is, bloody parasitical imperial whore.”

Naturally, this has all put Pakistan under pressure:

“The Pakistani security elite perceive that the US and its counter-proliferation regime are imposing penalties on Pakistan, although it was India that brought the nuclear issue to South Asia. “There exists a structural perception in Rawalpindi that the US, along with its allies India and Israel, is targeting Pakistan's nuclear program. Nonetheless, it remains uncertain how Pakistan will handle the situation. Certainly, increased investment in air defense systems, enhanced domestic intelligence capabilities, and strengthening the air force with next-generation J-35 stealth fighters are all essential to take on any possible Israeli actions."

Now, as noted previously in this thread, Munir has been summoned to the US - so either Pakistan will back down, or they'll flip the US the bird.

In a move that exposes Washington’s alarm, Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, was quietly summoned to the US Central Command headquarters in Florida. His absence from a key national parade in Islamabad has raised questions at home. While the Pakistani embassy remains tight-lipped, Dawn cited sources anticipating “uncomfortable conversations” in Washington. Whether Munir's US visit results in a recalibration or further consolidation of Islamabad's alignment with Tehran and Beijing remains uncertain. But one thing is clear: Pakistan is no longer sitting on the fence.

Looks like multiple waves of ballistic missiles launched at Israel by Iran, 10 potential impact sites reported, so multiple direct hits.

A ballistic missile also hit Haifa despite there being no warning/alert for the region. This is because Iran's most advanced ballistic missiles can maneuver, making predicting the impact point at launch extremely difficult, updates have to be provided based on this.

My impression from reading the NATOpedia articles on how the DPRK and Pakistan got nukes is that the government has to all-in when it comes to nukes since the government will face extraordinary amounts of international pressure, including other nuclear powers, to not nuke up. They will threaten them with sanctions, bribe them with food aid, even sabotage and assassinate scientists, but once the nuclear tests get detected on seismometers and satellites, everybody becomes fucking quiet.

Pakistan's PM Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto said "We will eat grass, even go hungry, but we will have our own nuclear bomb." This is the amount of urgency the political class has to have in order for the country to actually get nukes. As soon as there's a faction that doesn't want nukes or wants to drag their feet, that country will never get nukes in time.

Mexico's President has 82.5 percent approval rating - Prensa Latina

Article

Mexico City, Jun 19 (Prensa Latina) Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum has 82.5 percent citizen approval, according to the results of a FactoMétrica poll released today.

According to the survey, carried out from the 14th to the 18th of this month by telephone, only 17.5 percent of those consulted considered the performance of the president, the first woman to hold the office in this country, as bad or very bad.

The opinion poll revealed that 44.9 percent of those surveyed rated the chief executive as very close to the concerns of the people; 28.2 percent as somewhat close; 15.1 percent as not very close and 11.8 percent as not at all close.

Likewise, 79.5 percent defined her as an honest person compared to 20.5 percent who do not perceive her as such.

Meanwhile, 74.8 percent of the citizens considered the dignitary to have the capacity to make the right decisions in times of crisis, nine percent said that it depended on the situation, and 16.2 responded negatively.

When asked about trust in Sheinbaum to adequately represent Mexico in the international arena, 65.3 percent said they trusted her a lot, 13.8 somewhat, 7.7 a little and 13.2 not at all.

Regarding the opinion analysis on the government's work in different areas, 77.6 percent expressed a positive opinion about the fight against poverty and 63.8 expressed the same opinion regarding the work in the area of security.

The study included 1,200 people over 18 years of age and the type of sampling was probabilistic, randomly stratified by geography, gender and age groups, in order to guarantee adequate national representativeness.

Norway's Labour government will implement a national ban on trade with companies that facilitate Israel's illegal occupation of Palestinian land. This comes as a result of the socialist left party's negotiations on a revised state budget, and continuing pressure from the norwegian confederation of trade unions (LO).

Norway's massive sovereign wealth fund has continually dragged its feet on the issue of excluding companies that facilitate and profit from the occupation of Palestine from the wealth fund's portfolio (such as it did with Russia in 2022), even though finance minister (and former NATO chief) Jens Stoltenberg has admitted under oath that he has the power to do so at any moment.

I don't think Israel have the air superiority they pretend they have. I think Israeli impacts on Iran are mostly missiles. Their attempts to fly drones and jets in Iranian airspace is resulting in things being downed whereas the Iranian AD can't deal with missiles. Some drones are sneaking through too but that's just always going to be the case.

One thing that irks me is that when we've seen air superiority achieved in the past it's produced videos of lingering presence of jets. Iranian civilians aren't taking any videos showing the presence of jets at all as far as I can tell. They're loud as shit, you know when one is in your area. So if they have air superiority? Where's the evidence of this?

The obvious conclusion is that they don't have it.

I think the lack of impacts in eastern Iran aren't because they can't fly the air force there due to lack of air superiority, I think the lack of impacts there are caused by lack of range on the munitions they're successfully hitting western Iran with.

So the israelis are just obscuring all military casualties from the Iranian strikes, right? It's completely unbelievable with the number of confirmed hits on IDF/related institutions that no military personnel have been killed.
