I dont now if this is the correct community to post this. My computer shows signal to the screen when in the os (arch) but when I spam F2 or F12 to get into bios or boot selection it doesnt show anything to the screen. I have an optiplex 3020.

Have you tried updating your BIOS? If your PC allows you to boot from a USB :P

I can't blind check my USB from F12

Use a hard-wired keyboard if you aren't already. (ref)

Physically disconnect the HDD, and the PC should dump into BIOS. This would help narrow down wierd hardware behaviors if there are any.

Keyboard is wired. When I unplugged the ssd it just stayed at the black screen.

Already answered but yeah, sounds very likely that you have a GPU, and the display cable isn't connected to your GPU.

The optiplex 3020 only has an igpu

I'd say the other way around. the bios trying to use the internal GPU and can't handle the dedicated one.

Plugging a monitor into the output that's located on the motherboard would probably work to see the bios

There is no dedicated GPU.

Does it have more than one video output? If yes, you could try the other one.

[–] simop_jo@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Both do the same

Do you have a graphics card? Your BIOS might not be able to use it, try plugging your display cable into the side of your motherboard.

The optiplex 3020 only has integrated graphics
