Has change.org ever actually changed anything?

Has anyone ever investigated it for data mining?

Has change.org ever actually changed anything?

Yes. You should read this: https://www.change.org/impact

Has anyone ever investigated it for data mining?

What does that mean?

I'm sorry, they're taking credit for UPS drivers getting AC and Brittney Griner getting released from a Russian Prison? What nonsense.

[–] Pons_Aelius@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hey, the petition to remove EM is 9 months old and he is no longer CEO...so, those half dozen signatures are another success for change.org!!!...

(massive s/)

[–] KirbyJoe@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

But the company is still under EM's control. This sucks.

[–] Pons_Aelius@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The s/ stands for sarcasm. I don't think calling someone else CEO changed anything.

[–] KirbyJoe@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I understand that was a sarcasm, but I'm still unhappy that Elon still owns the company and ruining Twitter while people trying hard to stop him.

[–] Pons_Aelius@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Honestly, I think there is nothing that can be done now. He owns the place and it will only get worse. I know it sucks as twitter was a great resource for many people but those days are gone forever.

He has such an inflated ego I believe he would rather burn it to the ground than cut his losses, sell it and move on.

[–] Zeppo@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

He already reached the 'blame it on other people' stage, at least. That's how people like him conserve their ego while admitting defeat: "someone else did this to me".

Really? You really think change.org petitions were what achieved those things? Come on.

[–] KirbyJoe@lemmy.world -3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

A petition to remove Elon from Twitter is not like that. It's an important petition to save the world's most useful social networking service. Also, you should stop thinking that Change.org is a bad website (while we see some stupid nonsense petitions).

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He's not the CEO of Twitter anymore. The petition had nothing to do with that and it now has no purpose.

[–] KirbyJoe@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

But he still owns it and has control over the company as chairman and has made many bad changes to Twitter. Maybe the petition should be repurposed to remove him from Twitter completely.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

How is a petition going to make him sell his controlling stake in a private company? He's going to see the petition and say, "well, guess I better sell Twitter."

[–] ShunkW@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago

Lol they're literally saying "just trust me bro". They had nothing to do with any of this shit. They're full of it.

[–] Pons_Aelius@kbin.social 13 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

He owns the cesspit.

He is not going anywhere.

This change.org petition remind me of my grandfathers saying about wishing for something:

Wish in one hand, shit in the other and see which one gets full first.

edit: This petition has received 6 signatures in 9 months...

[–] Zeppo@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

It's at 7 now!

Also Musk already had his own poll along the lines of "Should I immediately step down as CEO?". The results were yes, and he ignored it for 6 months, then appointed some poor figurehead while he still continued to act as CEO.

[–] Pons_Aelius@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Honestly, I think the person who was appointed as CEO will do well out of it.

It will be great on their CV and all the fuck ups can be answered with, That was Elon's call.

[–] Zeppo@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

Twitter would have looked great on her resume back when Twitter had credibility. She's been brought on to increase advertising revenue by making the platform look safe and professional, which is basically impossible with Elron stunting all over the place. She also already had a great work history, so I'm not sure how much it will really help her. She's as much CEO as Medvedev as in charge when Putin pretended to step down for a few years.

[–] uniqueid198x@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Since June 5, the ceo of twitter has been Linda Yaccarino. So, mission accomplished?

I can only assume this is a glass cliff maneuver from musk

[–] KirbyJoe@lemmy.world -1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Not yet. The company is still under Musk's control because he owns it, and he's also chairman. Also, the person who launched the petition may not be aware of this.

[–] Pons_Aelius@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

The petition is 9 months old. When it was started, EM has just taken over.

[–] Olap@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

People will do anything to avoid mastodon it seems

[–] KirbyJoe@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I don't think these anti-Musk petitions are for avoiding Mastodon; it could be done along with using Mastodon.

[–] Pratai@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

ROFL. This is a joke, right? Do people really think this will do anything?

[–] nerdschleife@lemm.ee 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Remove musk as CEO

No, let him run it into the ground

[–] KirbyJoe@lemmy.world -3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

No, we shouldn't be anti-Twitter because we're anti-Musk (and this petition too).

[–] stigmata@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Honestly, no. Leave him there. It's what society needs. Maybe it'll finally go under.

[–] Arthur_Leywin@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Being the CEO or not means nothing. Elon still owns Twitter.

[–] KirbyJoe@lemmy.world -2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

And we have to stop him. We want to remove Elon from Twitter.

[–] Staccato@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

How exactly do you plan to do that? You got a spare $40 billion and the ability to coerce him to sell?

[–] Zeppo@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Since so many advertisers and other brands had left Twitter for many reasons, the EU threaten Elon Musk with a warning that they will permanently ban Twitter will ban the app along with Apple and Google play who also threaten twitter to pull the app off from their store, if they don't ban or suspend hate speech.

Great! Why would we want to interrupt that?

[–] LordCirais@pawb.social 2 points 2 years ago

Never interrupt the enemy making a mistake.

[–] KirbyJoe@lemmy.world -2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

To save Twitter from being destroyed by Elon Musk (we're serious).

[–] Zeppo@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

Musk isn’t going to step down because someone sends him a petition. It’s also pretty much too late.

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

Ha. Good luck.
