Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

I think they’re either promoting a fragrance or a movie.

The only fragrance I can imagine associated with that picture would be the smell of Donald's diapers...

I might have to slap this together in photoshop before today’s protests.

Lab Leak, by Depends

Idiocracy is what happens when you let conservatism reach its logical conclusion.

I hate having a president I know I could beat at poker.

Because I suck at poker.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You could beat this president at tic-tac-toe.

Even after he insists on being allowed to go first, believe it or not

I hate that this is considered politics. The origin of covid should be a scientific debate. At first I was also confused that lab leak was a right wing conspiracy, but scientifically it does have quite a few things going for it.

This timeline hasn’t been correct since Harambe was murdered. We need to get the sports almanac back from Biff.

Always ask one question: who does this help?

[–] simplejack@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago

Trump’s ego or Trump’s wallet.

I'm not really sure what you're getting at?

Does it help MAGA idiots because it makes them feel like they're sticking it to China?

In reality of course it's childish and is the international diplomatic equivalent of throwing ones own poo at your more sophisticated opponent, into the wind, up hill, when you have the runs.

[–] yournamehere@lemm.ee -3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

all the trump hate aside, where did it originate and will someone pay?

Diseases occur naturally, new diseases occur naturally. We know the first cases were in Wuhan China. There are a number of theories on how "patient 0" became infected. (Bat to human transfer, lab grown, pig to human, other dead animal to human) But patient 0 is not even known, early COVID spread extremely fast and a source cannot be pinpointed. Knowing the exact source could help with prevention of future new diseases (shutting down wet markets or closing labs). But with the speed of the spread, death rate, and chaos it brought, it will likely never be known.

"Will someone pay." Without knowing an exact source we don't know if a human is at fault or if there was just the perfect storm of natural events. mRNA vaccines are a new technology that was fast tracked thanks to COVID. As a society we will benefit from its ability to develop new vaccines faster. Many nations/regions were forced to reevaluate their disaster relief plans because of COVID. If a future event occurs the lessons learned from COVID should help mitigate.

that sounds like nobody made mistakes on purpose. i doubt that.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

Lots of mistakes were made by Trump and his administration.

[–] SaltySalamander@fedia.io 1 points 4 days ago

If the "mistakes" were made on purpose, they, by definition, weren't mistakes.
