I always have a hard time finding these things locally:

  • malt vinegar powder and liquid (not Sarsons.. I know where to get that and there is nothing wrong with it but just want to try something different)
  • steel cut oats (sometimes called Irish oatmeal but I've seen the standard rolled oats also called Irish and that's not what I'm after)
  • Liquid Smoke
  • Flipperzero (unlikely on any shelves, but worth asking)
  • Bus Pirate
  • Mongolian Fire Oil -- not sure if there is a generic name for this stuff but it’s a kind of spicy hot oil with a quite unique character

Any shops in Amsterdam worth a look?

Hi!

I'm not an expert on all of these things but from some online searching, supposedly there is at least one shop in Amsterdam selling Irish Oats (Havergrutten?): havermoutje.nl,

The flipper zero is likely only found online, or you can find it on Marktplaats (the local equivalent to Facebook marketplace), but this obviously means that you have to trust the person you're buying from, as it's a random person online.

I don't have time right now to look up liquid smoke and malt vinegar but if no one has replied when I get home, I'll take a look (if I don't forget).

Hope this is helpful :)

Thanks for the tip! But I’m a bit confused about what that place is. The pic on the landing page is certainly what I am after but I think that's just a recipe site, not a shop. I see no address and openstreetmaps does not have a shop by that name in Amsterdam.

Sorry for the confusion - the site I linked isn't the shop itself, it merely mentions such a shop exists. I looked it up in the 5 minutes before I had to leave before an appointment 😅

The website I linked to mentions Ekoplaza, which seems to have the Irish Oats. https://www.ekoplaza.nl/nl/producten/product/havergrutten-0001081396
