It's the Parker Drake meme
He put himself in a Parker square?
Fuck that's a much better joke than mine
I really Parkered that joke
Came here to make that comment. Wtf!? Haha. Awesome.
Lol its the non-american version of the meme.
He recreated it in a video a few years ago, i forget what the bit was though.
Bookshop.org
Donates money to independent local bookshops.
for those in the uk there is also https://uk.bookshop.org/
Thanks. I didn't look at the 'Buy European" until I'd posted.
That's nice. Will check out this one.
Openread is cool too.
I'm using a bunch simultaneously at this point. I need to script keeping them all in sync, or decide which one will be the winner.
yo you mean the secret book and record store yeah? I think I've bought one book and about 10 records from there.. actually I bought a copy of a Mountain Goats record before I realized I can't stand them- does anybody in Dublin wanna buy a copy of a Mountain Goats LP
Just did this exact thing and it was a painless transition. Follow me if you like: https://bookwyrm.social/user/pelley
For dutchies there is Hebban (https://www.hebban.nl/) which for the last few years has been owned by CPNB (Collective Propaganda of Dutch Books, which is a foundation owned by the bookseller trade organisation). Quite good, although I've used Goodreads besides it because Goodreads is worldwide.
Will check out the services in this thread.
!neodb@lemmy.zip - Fediverse alternative to Goodreads, IMDb, etc.
I've tried both storygraph and bookwyrm but couldn't really figure out what they're good for, ended up using openreads, an offline app that's not connected to any service and just lets you keep track of your books for yourself.
Looks like dollar store Tom Segura.
Okay, that's nice and all - but what about sharing 'to-read' and 'have-read' lists with friends and/or family?
Iโve been using hardcover.app itโd a little rough around the edges but a lot better than Goodreads from a UX perspective
Even if you prefer to do that these websites not only offer info about books but also allow people to rate and review it independently from the (online) shop you bought it from. I also use Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB for example.
IMDb is owned by Amazon. Tmdb is probably the best alternative as of now.
Thanks, hadn't looked for alternatives. Prefer RT over IMDb anyway but I'll check it out. There is also a dutch website (https://www.filmvandaag.nl/) I've started using more, they have an extensive database show the scores of various places (including RT and IMDb) but it is more a news website than a review website.
