[–] throws_lemy@lemmy.nz 304 points 1 week ago (8 children)

I don't, but yes this is very blatant

If the FTC/SEC were staffed, they'd be very upset.

[–] psycho_driver@lemmy.world 31 points 1 week ago

The acting chair of both, SpoogeCannon, of DOGE, has released a statement voicing his concern about this. He said he’ll get to the bottom of where this picture came from and put a stop to it.

must be the biggest insider trading event in history

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 62 points 1 week ago (7 children)

The biggest most beautiful insider trading, you've never seen bigger insider trading. String him up!

There must be a way to surface this info? Surely there are known "insider" accounts one can track?

I was just talking to my coworker at lunch that I’ll create an account and buy the dip. By the time we got back to our desks, I saw the news of the pause and everything shot up.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 57 points 1 week ago (1 children)

By the time it hits the mainstream media, it's too late for you or me.

I bought the dip once, years ago. Made like, I donno. Couple hundred bucks. Sold all my crypto at the same time. That was cumulative with the other thing. Made a couple hundred bucks.

That's the great thing about capitalism: anyone can make a ton of money, so long as they have a few tons of money.

And nothing will happen. But i bet a new trans athlete will win 5th place in an event somewhere to divert magas attention.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Didn't that already happen? I thought they were all butthurt about some pool competition, like it fucking matters.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 44 points 1 week ago (1 children)

My favorite is people complaining about trans competitors in chess

Well you are that's cause they developed a cunning male brain at birth, and now with hormones they also have a crafty female brain. Having two brains is an unfair advantage over the poor cis men and women who only have one brain.

The American legal system will be unable and/or unwilling to deal with it. Best chance is to send HIM to El Salvador if he ever relinquishes the office.

[–] unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Absolutely not. Crimes committed within the u.s. such as treason get adjudicated in the u.s.

This should be considered an act of war by...everyone, really. Everyone should pull their stuff out of the US market, be they ordinary Americans, Norweigian oil bonds, or German gold.

Trump will pull this shit again, he has a pattern of pulling the rug, and will keep doing so long after there is no more rug.

100%, its incredibly obvious.

No, I was watching the bond market. The bond market is very tricky. I was watching it, but if you look at it now, it’s — it’s beautiful. The bond market right now is beautiful. But, yeah, I saw last night where people were getting a little queasy.”

Hard to believe these are US Presidential quotes. Sounds more like some teenage barista smoking pot.

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 40 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Don't shit on teenagers smoking pot by comparing them to Trump lol

[–] Jenpocalypse@lemmy.world 34 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The only reason he reversed course is because the bond market was shitting the bed. If no one was buying our shitty bonds, then they couldn't issue the debt to pay for the massive tax cuts for the rich they're about to pass. The insider trading wasn't supposed to start until the market bottomed, they will absolutely try this same play again in three months.

[–] chargen@lemmy.ca 44 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It seems like bonds are favourable when issued by a country with a stable government. Won’t investors consider this a sign of an unstable government and possibly continue to dump bonds?

He has like 30 something felonies and openly admitted to rigging the voting computers. The man could commit murder on stage and still somehow continue being president.

I mean, dude literally commited treason. "Market manipulation" is quite tame in comparison.

[–] Tortl@lemm.ee 24 points 1 week ago

Multiple treasons, and all the people who would punish him for his market manipulation just benefitted from it so they're only going to thank him

100% he is making bank off this. So are his buddies. What DOGE was all about, setting up the US Gov't to be fleeced as a cash cow for the crime family. We need these criminals removed and full security audit on our entire gov't computer system. Every US citizen is currently at risk due to negligence but these fools. That doesn't even cover the extensive list of civil rights violations and oh...you know, constitution violations. But it matters not unless the are actual consequences. But money makes those go away.

Yeah, no shit. His first term was 100% him playing golf and using the treasury as his personal piggy bank, why the fuck would we expect anything different this time around? Wake me up when someone actually does something about it.

I've been saying this all along. Not just about this time, but he has pulled off a similar trade scare every month since he took office, with the same result - he announces tariffs, the market tanks, he rattles his sabre a bit, then pauses the tariffs, and the market rises again.

This has been the third, and biggest one, probably because he needed to make it a big one as he cried wolf for a third time. Which means the next time he does it, it will have to be even bigger.

Its clearly market manipulation, of a type that only president could do, but only if he were corrupt enough.

I heard the French have a solution for this

[–] catenavi@lemm.ee 42 points 1 week ago (2 children)

He made the announcement at 1:18, but there was a high volume spike in SPY at 1:02. He then introduced some friends, like Charles Schwab, in the white house later and said they had made billions. This crash was also the first time MTG bought stocks.

Should be an SEC investigstion with actual consequences for once. Probably won't be, but there should.

I mean it's not like he went on Truth Social shortly before he announced the pause and told people it was a good time to buy stocks or anything... right?

[–] rational_lib@lemmy.world 40 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

There was definitely a rumor that caused a market spike two days ago until the white house immediately called it "fake news" which the media took at Trump's word as they always so gullibly do. Well as it turns, out, this "fake news" got the duration of the pause right to the exact number of days.

Now everyone seems to be pretending they don't remember that this happened just two days ago and I just don't get it. Shouldn't somebody be asking why some random people on Twitter seemed to know Trump's plans in advance?

And? Who’s going to do anything about it? The stupidest people in this country gave a con man unilateral power to do anything he wants, what did they expect?

[–] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 36 points 1 week ago

You know he'll never face charges tho, right? I mean SCOTUS essentially gave him carte blanche to do anything he wants, whenever he wants to whomever he wants, no questions asked.

[–] Baguette@lemm.ee 30 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Not market manipulation, he tweeted in the morning that it's a good time to buy, we should've just trusted the orange man /s

Is it 125% for China and 10% for everyone else currently?... for 90 days?

Or is it 10℅ across the board for 90 days?

I'll wait for his next tweet to make all my speculation pointless. Fuck this guy.
