Democrats:

Bush/Cheney 2028

Lmao

[–] amemorablename@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 2 weeks ago

Considering some people apparently like Liz Cheney because of her vocal opposition to Trump, I would not put it past a kind of Cheney ticket being attempted.

[–] RedColossus@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 2 weeks ago

There were a few Democrats that actually wanted Mitt Romney because he could “unite the nation”.

[–] porcupine@lemmygrad.ml 34 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Considerably less than the chances Hillary Clinton runs again

[–] REEEEvolution@lemmygrad.ml 24 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Imagine both Trump and Hillary dying during the election.

Imagine both Trump and Hillary dying

Oh, I do...

He retired as a president in a positive light (according to the libs at least) and has been doing talks for fun ever since, raking in money. Unless he actually fell on his head he would be mad to return to such a shit show.

[–] AntiOutsideAktion@hexbear.net 25 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Absolutely zero. He's already got his golden ticket. And why would he want to tarnish his legacy of being the democrat's high water mark taking over this shit show?

Also there's no way he'd risk losing which he probably would.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

he was the only democrat that successfully pulled away leftist 3rd party votes both times he ran.

i bet he'd have a good chance if he pays even more lip service than before.

Libs arent leftists by any metric. Ohbombya might have fooled a few genuine anti-imperialists the first time around with talk about closing Guantanimo and ending the occupation of Afghanistan, but he's a very known quantity now to anyone who has any credible M-L analysis.

Only the most baby-brained idpol-worshipping libs would want to breach their precious institutions of term-limited DeMocRACy just to take another 4-year nap. But I'd argue those same people have been driven too hysterical to ever be happy again with that false sense of stability.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago

I'm aware that liberals aren't leftist and my comment pointed out that leftist voted for Obama instead on leftist parties when he ran

[–] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The parliamentarian will say Obama specifically cannot run for a third term, and the democrats will roll over and display their vulnerable belly in a display of trust

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

I don't even think it will get that far. Decorum™ and civility™ will get in the way.

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 13 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I'm still in the "elections are over" camp.

I'll be surprised if the midterms even happen.

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They're already over in the "Mister Smith goes to Washington" sense. I don't ever see anyone getting to the top without being grown in a vat at the DNCC, or sacrificing all of their principles like we are about to see Whitmer do.

There will never be a representative election again, and I don't think there has been one on a national level probably ever. The political machine has been in motion for far too long to let some random upstart change anything.

Most political change has come from grassroots movements anyway

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Right, but I think they'll cancel the pageant of voting too. They'll say they need to suspend elections for national security or because of suspected voter fraud or due to foreign interference or due to whatever crisis they created.

Elections are pointless and I don't see this new revanchist right seeing a reason to keep them going.

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

There's the old saying: "if voting actually did anything, they would make it illegal"

I don't necessarily disagree with you though. I find it interesting that we had an election in the middle of a civil war. I don't see that happening today.

I wonder how people would react to suspended elections. If it was liberals suspending elections, there would be a double January 6th type event. Libs let the parliamentarian tell them no and nothing happens because of civility™. I haven't had representation my whole life, so I don't think I'll notice a difference.

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 weeks ago

There’s the old saying: “if voting actually did anything, they would make it illegal”

I kind of hate that saying, because for a lot of people voting literally is illegal.

I wonder how people would react to suspended elections.

Liberals will scream "how dare you sir!" and then do nothing.

I hope normal people will actually be agitated to action, though.

Because otherwise Trump's party will have to deal with backlash from crashing the economy/overseeing a bird flu pandemic/starting WW3. I think they'll just decide to not have elections and Democrats will let them.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 13 points 2 weeks ago

Anything is possible; I don't think the Dems want a winning candidate anymore. They did their job well and delivered results to the money masters. They want to retire quietly without getting themselves on a hit list, jmo.

[–] marl_karx@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

How tf would Trump run for a 3rd term, he is already the oldest president ever on inauguration and will ve the oldest when his term ends, i think they will need a replacement. maybe the propaganda will shuft towards another person some time during this term to create a new personality cult

[–] footfaults@lemmygrad.ml 23 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Golden throne, thousands of psykers sacrificed to keep the Emperor alive, etc etc

[–] AmarkuntheGatherer@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Who'd be Trump's Guilliman?

[–] freagle@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Feels like they are making attempts with Vance. He's one of the most public VPs in a long time, particularly public alongside Trump in various showcases like the Zelensky dress down.

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't think Vance has the sauce without trump holding his hand.

[–] freagle@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Every Vader was an Anakin once.

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago

He's already blew his sympathy chip with that shitty book. The least he's going to have to do in order to get more attention is get a wound like Dan Crenshaw.

I still think trump is going to dump his ass though. Look at how Pence is a #resistance hero now because he crossed trump

[–] Mzuark@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago

If Trump runs for a third term, we have much bigger problems.
