This has been happening for years to Hispanic people, and much worse.

I’m glad y’all in the news are upset that it’s happening to white people from rich countries (“tourists”! The horror) now. But you missed the point, if that is why you are upset.

It's happening to everybody now, more often, whether its the El Salvador deportation cases or the tourists. But the reporting on the cases receiving special attention (not primarily because they're white, it's because they have external connections that can connect to anglo national media), many have chosen to highlight the suffering that they witnessed of people equally as innocent but have been stuck in limbo for far longer than they have.

Absolutely right. Similar scenarios have been playing out for a long time, but the additional, onerous measures were seldom applied to anyone with the resources to fight it in court or put the U.S. government on blast in the media.

Some of the stories from years past are so absurdly improbable that they seem like fiction. Americans who've lived their entire lives stateside but whose citizenship/documentation was not "in order" have been deported to their parent's countries of origin, and where they have no contacts and sometimes don't even speak the language. Jimmy Aldaoud from Michigan whose parents were Iraqi refugees and who was born in a camp in Greece before the family settled in the U.S. He later died of complications of diabetes as he was unable to obtain consular assistance or even insulin.

If trump knew this couldn't be more DEI. I mean, he's working diligently of improving the representation of (foreign) white folks among those abused by border agents.

This has been happening for years to Hispanic people, and much worse.

And the majority of Hispanic men still voted for trump...

The apparent shift has prompted several nations to change their travel advice and triggered a frenzy of questions in online travel forums about whether it is safe to go to the US.

Don't. Wait at least until the next administration. It's not safe, even everyday Americans are warning family, friends and business colleagues to stay away.

Roland Lescure, a French member of parliament who represents French citizens living in North America, said... “The home of the free and the brave is turning into something very different.”

A fascist, totalitarian surveillance state whose law enforcement has been granted absolute power, and who act with impunity, the checks & balances which were supposed to protect the Constitutional rights of citizens reduced to mere window dressing. Opposition Democrat politicians have busied themselves with impotent appeals to reason, press conferences, press releases, social media posts and ineffective protest marches which they hope will shed light on the situation and spur change (it won't).

I'm American and I've told all my friends that if they do not have an up to date passport they need to get one immediately and carry a photocopy with them at all times. It's legitimately frightening. I have travel coming up that was booked before the election and I am extremely concerned about it. I'm a citizen and so were my parents. This is not the sign of a functioning country. Stay very far away. Do not buy our products or support our big businesses.

I'm in the process of moving all my cloud things away from American businesses. It's either European alternatives (like netcup for hosting) or self-hosting. Just ripped my audible collection after canceling it. Already got rid of a lot of other things. Currently, I do not see the US as an ally.

I'm very glad to hear that. I think it will long term be good for users and other companies (in that one sense, America going crazy isn't good for anyone). Smaller non American companies will be getting more business and it will make the market more competitive. A lot of these other companies will maybe be more incentivized to prioritize privacy because it's cheap to offer and a good selling point. I also think companies will see that supporting a fascist regime is not actually making them rich and they will be less likely to support far right candidates elsewhere.

Sound advice that, I can't stand the stink coming off the boarder, and am won't even consider passing through via connecting flights until shit's cleared up stateside.

US CBP are going to eliminate the need for their own jobs by scaring the rest of the world away from wanting to visit.
