For the past day or so every time I try to open Jerboa it just crashes immediately without an error message why. Is there any scheduled update/fix for Jerboa? I'd like to be able to browse on mobile again and really enjoyed the app while it was working.

-posted from my pc (only because I can't get the app to work)

It's not working for me. So I switched to Liftoff.

[–] ki77erb@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Same. Won't let me log in. Liftoff is fantastic though!

I already have Thunder, Connect, Summit, Liftoff and Jerboa. I just thought I would play with all of them for a few weeks until I find the one I like best.

Just installed liftoff to try it out and unfortunately have to say that I like the layout even BETTER than Jerboa!

I feel a weird sense of loyalty to Jerboa because it was my first app for Lemmy but I might actually like Liftoff better.

Thanks for the suggestion!

[–] Spacebar@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I changed some settings to make it look better to me. I'm happiest with liftoff right now.

[–] sirtwinklebottom@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Same here. Liftoff is great.

[–] velvetcrown@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Try connect

[–] JackGreenEarth@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Connect is working the wellest for me

[–] scaredsilence208@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I was using Jerboa and I switched to connect and I can confirm. It works much weller.

[–] kuro_neko@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 years ago

Connect dev here. Weller is what I strive for! Glad you're enjoying it.

[–] NuclearArmWrestling@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Same here. Jeroba would randomly crash. Connect hasn't yet.

Latest Jerboa requires a specific server version and not every server has updated yet.

There are a lot of other app options! Like Thunder, Connect or Summit

[–] Spitz@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (6 children)

The only one I could find on the Play store is Liftoff. I guess the others have to be downloaded from elsewhere.

What's Summit? Never heard of it.

[–] idunnololz@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Dev of Summit here. It is a lemmy reader like the other apps mentioned. You can find it on the play store by searching “app for lemmy” or “lemmy reader”. I'm actually releasing a big update today. Here's a preview of the feature: https://youtube.com/shorts/8mIVZflUHhU?feature=share.

I had to clear all memory (not just the cache) then relogin. That sorted it. But I've since moved to Connect

[–] alphador@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

I just stayed off the fediverse while new users signed up and jerboa is back and working for me on android.

[–] isdfoa@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I am using webweb.app which is a PWA Apollo clone. Its a bit weird cause the UI is iOS based, but it's by far the smoothest and full featured all I tried so far!

Scrolling is like butter, I can customize text size, and from comment reply notifications it actually directly opens the thread to the comment, and also highlights the comment which i love! Is liftoff and thunder similarly full featured?

[–] LunchEnjoyer@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I think you meant wefwef.app?

[–] isdfoa@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Oops, pesky autocorrect. This also has infinite scrolling which I didn't even realize at first and what made the Lemmy feel so clunky on mobile before - that is definitely the biggest thing that makes this my favorite now.

[–] Yoz@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Its working fine for me.

[–] kat@feddit.de 7 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

I have the same issue. Deleting app data and cache stopped the crash at the start, but I cannot log into my account. It seems the reason for the crash was that the lemmy instance I'm on (and that I was still logged into) uses version 17.x, when Jerboa requires 18.x.

I still can't switch from local to all. Switched to Thunder which has been great!

Edit: Jerboa back to working great and my top app again.

[–] vvv@lemmy.darmstadt.social 3 points 2 years ago

I had this, too, but got a new version done hours ago that solved this problem.

[–] DigitalPortkey@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I think Jerboa was always only going to be a best-effort app that the dev even recommended you fork if you want to see changes.

I strongly suggest you use the more up and coming popular apps, like Liftoff and Thunder.

[–] Humanius@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Personally I'm using it to hold me over till Sync for Lemmy is released

[–] Gamera8ID@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

This is being discussed in https://lemmy.world/c/jerboa@lemmy.ml too. You might want to check out that Community.

There's a comprehensive list of Lemmy apps being curated here.

My personal recommendation is https://wefwef.app.

[–] QubaXR@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

I've been periodically installing and uninstalling it on my phone for the past 10 days. Never managed to launch it. Crashes after a second or two every time.

[–] Goauld_are_Pokemon@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

Im using Connect for Lemmy on android. It seems to working fine so far.

[–] RxBrad@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Seeing the same here for my lemmy.world account. Strong recommend for Connect as an alternative.

[–] eleitl@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

With latest updates with app and server-side it's a lot more stable now. It will be weeks to months until the infrastructure can absorb new users.

[–] Communist@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I cleared the app data and that fixed it, but signed me out of beehaw and I can't get back into my normal account on my phone until it's updated.

[–] ottk3@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

Used Jerboa but switched to wefwef on mobile and it's the best mobile app imho at the moment.

It was working for me with some glitches (for example always opening with sorting all/hot instead of what I had set up, subscribed/new).

Then yesterday it auto updated, and the glitches are gone.

[–] hawkshaw@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This app crashes on boot for me. Could not even get it to open.

[–] PillowTalk420@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Yesterday when I tried, it told me that the instance wasn't up to date and didn't work, so I tried a different app. Liftoff is proving to be my favorite so far.

[–] Daisychan@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Same here. Wefwef and Liftoff work better for me now.

[–] youslashuser@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

It's very clunky for me

[–] Ginko@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago

Same happened to me. Just update it and it should work again. Jerboa requires the latest update to work from my experience.

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Mine won't start at all so I installed "connect for Lemmy." It's actually pretty slick and I don't see the same errors.

[–] fne8w2ah@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Didn't work for me cos it only supports version 0.17.4 or smth whereas lemmy.world requires version 0.18 and above.

[–] krigo666@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

You got it reversed, lemmy.world is at 0.17.4 and Jerboa is already at 0.18.0. No logins are possible, and if already logged in it works with some crashes.

There's a bug on 0.18.0 that causes problems for some features of lemmy.world, they're trying to update the instance to 0.18.1.

[–] LunchEnjoyer@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Same here, but it will be fixed/changed eventually. Read a long post about it, and it seemed a tad complicated.

I'm using this fork and it works flawlessly with lemmy.world.

(a few eventual crashes, but it's rare)
