What a stupid post. Each one of those European cities has areas that look just as bad, if not worse, than the cherry picked images of their American counterparts.

America fucking sucks right now, but not because the worst parts of our cities don't look like the best parts of European cities. This is some low effort bullshit.

Woah. Calm down satan.

I agree with you, but i just wanted to say that.

This is especially dum because New York and New Orleans are both cities with intresting culture and nuanced history.

I havent ever heard about New Prague so cant say anything.

There are like 20 cities in states that start with "New" and op chose very poorly.

[โ€“] Doctor_Satan@lemm.ee 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

New Prague is a small town in Minnesota with less than 10k people and has only been around for 150 years, and OP is comparing it with a city of almost a million and a half that has been around for over 700 years. It's like watching Lebron James dunk on some middle school kid at the park and then mocking the kid for sucking at basketball.

[โ€“] MrFinnbean@lemmy.world 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

So without shadows of a doubt New Praque is not as good as Praque.

[โ€“] Doctor_Satan@lemm.ee 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Correct. Just like Orlovรก is without a doubt worse than San Diego, because it's an apples to oranges comparison.

[โ€“] MrFinnbean@lemmy.world -1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

And Orlovรก is not named after San Diego.

[โ€“] Doctor_Satan@lemm.ee 0 points 4 days ago

Then why you didn't ask if the kid in my previous comment was also named Labron?

Absolutely avoid traveling to the US if you don't have to, but New York and New Orleans aren't total dumps as portrayed by these cherry picked images. I'll also point out that residents of both those cities overwhelmingly oppose Trump and vote heavily Democratic. And New Prague? Never heard of it!

[โ€“] qarbone@lemmy.world 14 points 5 days ago

The inclusion of "New Prague", a place no one has heard of, really highlights OP's need to pit the US against something.

It's shit in the US and there's no guarantee you will enter or leave safely. That should be the end of it.

[โ€“] toddestan@lemm.ee 3 points 4 days ago

As a Minnesotan that knows New Prague I had a good laugh at a small midwestern town being thrown into this comparison.

New Prague isn't a bad place, but admittedly not a whole lot of touristy things to do there.

As a New Yorker, we won't hold it against you if you hold off on visiting, you do what is best for you.

New Prague is a small town of about 9,000 people in Minnesota. Iโ€™ve never been to New York or New Orleans but I love Minnesota and would welcome and encourage anybody whoโ€™s interested to visit.

[โ€“] rikudou@lemmings.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I always planned to go there, given I lived in the OG Prague to see how much the Czech community in the US differs from us.

Well, hopefully in a few years or so.

[โ€“] LilB0kChoy@lemm.ee 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

If you ever make it stop off in Saint Paul and check out the C.S.P.S. Hall too!

[โ€“] rikudou@lemmings.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Holy shit, Sokol in the US, now that's a surprise! Thanks, definitely will check it out if the US ever returns to normal.

Pictures of wealthy tourist areas are better than wide angle pictures of roads?

Shiiiit

Don't you know? NY and NOLA are when random street.

[โ€“] gl38@feddit.uk 1 points 3 days ago

There's a "new" Prague?

This is decidedly against the rules:

Rule 2: This community is for discussing European products/services and news related to that.

Edit:
Headline was changed, so now it's actually relevant. ๐Ÿ‘

[โ€“] Blaze -1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Isn't travelling to Europe supporting European services, especially tourism?

[โ€“] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

But that is in no way what this is inviting to. Maybe if your post had contained something like that?

A thread about nice European holiday trips would be different, what you did is not what you claim.

[โ€“] Blaze 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Just updated the title to make the intent more clear

[โ€“] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

OK, that makes a huge difference. ๐Ÿ‘

[โ€“] Blaze 3 points 6 days ago

Cheers ๐Ÿ‘

There is at least one New London as well, off the top of my head. And a New Braunfels (though I'm not sure there's an old one; I imagine there is, though).

[โ€“] Pirata@lemm.ee 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

These are laughably bad. No culture, no style in any way. Kinda pathetic.

[โ€“] MrFinnbean@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Im not particulaly pro USA at the moment, but sayng New York city and New Orleans dont have culture or style is just stupid. Both cities have pretty intresting history, own architectural style, cultural significance and own culinary styles.

New Prague is just random town amd only one on that should be on this list.
