The default in iOS is to load a preview of the link while showing a menu with the option to copy it. If Iβm copying a link, I want to sanitise it by removing utm and other tracking pox before pasting it. Automagically loading the preview prevents this for the initial request. Signal is the only app Iβve seen which does this properly, providing the βcopy linkβ option without loading a preview.
Additionally, it would be great if there were an option which could strip tracking tags appended to URLs when composing posts. I know Iβm in the minority who actively do it manually, and it could be an effective way to prevent trackers from spreading.
Oh yeah iOS sucks about as much as Android
I second this motion.
I third this motion
Must be an android limitation? I can long press and select copy link on iOS. Or are you saying just auto copy it without that dialogue box?
Yes. iOS has a specific construct for this, but android doesn't.
Must be because Iβve never had this issueβ¦ on ios
One Android Lemmy mobile client that I used before Voyager (I don't recall which: Sync? Jerboa? Raccoon? one of them, maybe) would, on long-press of hyperlinked text, pop-up a small text field wherein the targeted URI would display, and could be tapped to follow (or just tap away from the text field to dismiss it).
It was so very useful being able to see the destination of a link without having to follow it to find out where it pointed.
I'm using Jerboa and I get little pop up on long press.
Thank you for the corroboration. π
