I can honestly say I am good at being a psychotherapist. I hated my old career (financial auditing), and I love this one. Because I love it, I am motivated to learn new things and become the best I can be. I have amazing clients, and they are making progress. I’m proud of what I do!

That's a fantastic career to have, and changing careers was a powerful step. You get to help others but really develop yourself at the same time, so it's win win! Are there any particular areas of therapy you're interested in?

I am good at taking care of my dogs (and my past pets which includes cats), I love them very much and I've given them each a good life during their time with me. I am a good partner to my SO, I communicate with them (this took a lot of work to get better at) and am affectionate. I am good at listening to my friends and giving them support. I am good at computer-related things and like to tinker. I am good at styling my hair and applying eye makeup. I am good at sticking to a diet (lost 30 lbs, 15 lbs more to go).

That's a lot of truly brilliant things well done. I'm really impressed by the computer tinkering, I've always struggled with that. That's A LOT of weight, you've worked hard to do that. What inspired you to lose weight?

Thanks 😁 I had always wanted to lose weight (I gained it around college) but it felt impossible at times since I am disabled. When covid happened, I read a lot of stuff about overweight and obese people dying from covid. So I've been taking steps since then, reducing/replacing my food, weighing my food, etc. It was very hard but I've seen a consistent slope since then. I also downloaded a new app called Walkscape, it is like Runescape except you power everything with your steps which has encouraged me to walk more on my good days. There is a community for it btw !walkscape@lemmy.world. I don't think I had covid at any point, maybe I was asymptomatic, and had the vaccines as soon as they were ready. But still, seeing my old clothes fitting again is great.

I'm disabled too so I can really relate. Your health is a fantastic inspiration, you deserve to be healthy. Sounds like you've been sensible, you've given yourself manageable tasks to do and you've stuck to it. You can be really proud of it

I'm a good reader. I'm good at systems, I can take a group of disjointed processes and make them cohesive. I'm good at holding space for other people, I'm genuinely interested to hear how they view themselves and the world. Also, I think I'm pretty good at being funny, it's a self-defense mechanism honed over years of masking adhd and anxiety lol

You sound like a really well rounded person with a good heart. You mention disjointed processes cohesion, can you give me an example?

I'm good at supporting people. I'm good at listening without judgement, getting people to open up to me, always being there and I keep people's secrets. I'm a really good friend.
