The PS2 does have weird filter and stuff for sure.
Sega Saturn is even more of a pain for emulate tho.
Retroarch hates anything with 6 buttons
N64 is a pain too with those C buttons

For those who don’t know about it, my preferred way to play Timesplitters 2 has become the TS2 Redux project in conjunction with the version of the game that was hidden away in Homefront 2
I wonder if the weird stuff is just a consequence of CRTs at the time.
I can't even get PS1 or 3DS emulation to work, haven't tried PS2 yet
Good luck
Really? Duckstation is already so easy though.
Maybe you ought to try EmuDeck.
I usually just render the game at my monitor’s resolution and don’t upscale it
Original PS2 resolution on a modern monitor is a bit too spicy for me. It looks like you're playing a Youtube video from 2006
No I mean I render the game at 4k or 1080p or whatever the native res of the monitor I’m playing it on is. Upscaling is when you render it at a low resolution, likely the native ps2 resolution and then just scale that image higher
Looks like I may have been misusing the word "upscale" for years
My approach for years is just to use the GameCube version unless its a ps2 exclusive. Like even the deinterlacer can cause some weird artifacts if the game doesn't support progressive scan and pressure sensitive buttons still fuck me off. Also some games the opengl renderer just doesn't work properly I tend to run in software mode a lot of the time and have done for years. For example armored core 2 actually performs worse in hardware rendered mode lol. I use the built in lottes filter it makes the native ps2 res look nicer on bigger screens but i mostly ps2 on my steam deck where native res actually looks great. I also really just hate the high res look on classic games and it makes me shudder when I see what people do to ps1 games, i prefer integer upscaling.
But yeah I've had issues with ps2 emu for like a decade I'm glad it finally got a usable UI though

That's more of a 2D thing though, right? Anyway, all the edges in my PS1 games look sharp enough to cut paper
Personal preference but I don't like overly sharp 4k ps1 graphics. I prefer native res integer upscaled with CRT filters to try and replicate the original look as closely as possible. The dithering and warbling stays on in bed
Texture on that tunnel wall looks better on the gamecube version but the computer model looks better on the PS2 one.
I forgot to mention the textures. Yes, the GC definitely comes out on top with that here too. It's interesting- the GameCube minidiscs hold almost three times less data than DVDs but on the other hand the PS2 had a tiny amount of VRAM so I guess it evens out
