This movie has to be an op to spread anti Mexican and transphobic hate. It's getting tons of awards all while the people it portrays are yelling about how harmful it is. My guess is it's getting the awards it is to try and normalize hate for those two groups.

No, this is just how white people are

The Academy loves doing this. Movies that are ultimately harmful to a minority group but appear on a surface level to be supportive, so the Academy pats themselves on the back despite falling hook-line-and-sinker for something like The Green Book or Crash.

this movie was created by isreali zionists, stars isreali zionists; and it's bad spanish makes it clear that it was meant for americans or western europeans who don't speak spanish.

The selena gomez song I'm told is an afront to the language

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

they tried to make it easier for people to understand what the words and it shows that it's clearly don't for english speakers.

It's the kind of Spanish that feels familiar if you're born and raised in the United States.

Everytime I walk away w the feeling that I 100% understood everything; then I know that the Spanish was bad. Lol

Glad to see we haven't progressed beyond "Buffalo Bill" and/or "Lois Einhorn"-tier in 30+ years.

I posted some of the drama in c/chisme with how people in Mex are demanding so many refunds an goverment agency had to step in

Also this is the better song in the movie the rest are way worst, there is one about a character remembering their dead father and it supposed to be sad but they say things like "you smell like guacamole, mezcal and coffee. Spicy Spicy " and its so bad

A parody short film, "Johanne Sacrebleu" - set in France and filmed in stereotypical French accents, but starring Mexicans and filmed in Mexico - was released by Camila Aurora, a trans Mexican content creator. The film follows the titular character, a trans woman and heir to France's largest baguette company, as she falls in love with Agtugo Ratatouille, a trans man and rival head of France's largest croissant company. The film went viral, reaching hundreds of thousands of views after a few days of release online.

Incredible. Also from the YouTube comments:

This is what musicals must sound like to people who hate musicals.

[–] glimmer_twin@hexbear.net 15 points 3 weeks ago

[–] Crucible@hexbear.net 12 points 3 weeks ago

was Selena Gomez's crying on camera thing to try to distract people from this nightmare?

[–] TechnoUnionTypeBeat@hexbear.net 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't have anything to add except that the very first recommendation when I checked this without logging into YouTube was some blatant chud shit yea youtube is cooked

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 8 points 3 weeks ago

Crazy cooked. That pipeline to fash is very real

[–] peppersky@hexbear.net 11 points 3 weeks ago

come on that song is funny as hell. if that song was the entire movie it would be the best film of the year

[–] Crowtee_Robot@hexbear.net 10 points 3 weeks ago

This is the most Oscar-ass movie I could imagine. Naturally it's going to win every award for which it's nominated.

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 8 points 3 weeks ago

What, y'all never watched a musical before? hahaha

You don't understand! It's a metacommentary on the fetishization/reduction of the trans experience to GRS/GAS

What in Satan's holy fucking name did I just watch?

that was one of the worst movies I've seen in quite a while. doesn't work as a musical/opera, doesn't work as a melodrama, and I'm baffled that wikipedia calls this a "comedy." the much derided surgery song is actually the best sequence in the movie because at least it goes all out as an embarrassing musical....the rest half asses it. that's not even getting into the stuff people are mad about!
