The tutorial is obnoxiously long and even after it takes a few hours for the game to really get going. Fucking fantastic game once it gets rolling though. Most important tip for the game: shoot slavers in the face!

I installed a mod that adds more klansmen in the wild just so I can shoot more of them

Nice, I'll have to get that one if I ever go back to it.

But what if I want to tie them up and leave them in a train track?

[–] Ithorian@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Oh shit I never tried that, now I really want too.

The actions your character takes (picking up objects, looting bodies, crafting, etc.) are realistically slow for the most part. Embrace it. A lot of people hate it but for me I think it's a game that was intentionally designed to be taken slowly and is better for it.

Don't try to experiment or find novel solutions during missions, just do exactly what the game tells you. It's an open world until you're in a mission, at which point you're forced onto a very narrow path. Feels like the developers didn't want you to think or get creative, they wanted you to control your character as if he's an actor in a movie performing a role. There's a single case that I know of where you can successfully go "off-script" but by the time you get there the game will have trained you to strictly follow its orders, so you probably won't find it.

I don't know about you, but for me I loved the early hours of the game when money was scarce. I felt like I really had to make decisions between upgrading my ammo pouch, or saving up to buy a varmint rifle so I could get perfect pelts, or upgrading the camp so I could swap horses there. Unfortunately I soon found my first gold bar and sold it for a ton of money, after which money was almost a complete non-factor. If you enjoy games where resources are scarce and you have to make tough decisions, avoid selling high-value items. It's way too easy to become extremely wealthy. In addition, this ability to get rich quick really clashes with the game's storyline, creating some noticeable narrative incoherence.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your time with it. It's by far the worst game I've ever loved.

Might be thinking of another game but isn't there an option to lower the sell price of things in the difficulty settings? I don't remember ever feeling like money wasn't something I had to attention too.

Yeah its been easy money with the expanded bounty hunting mod, itsreally fun to do some scouting and find exactly which guy in the group is wanted based on the wanted poster picture then take him in alive by shooting him in the hand to disarm him or leg to stop him from runnning after killing his posse.

The stage coach robberies mod give you lots of income too, the best ones are when you kill the drivers and escort guards and lasso and rob one of the rich people who try to flee the stage coach.

Be rootin'

Be tootin'

And by gum, be shootin'

But most of all, be kind.

Explore and do as much as you can in Chapter 2, yeah, once the plot really starts going it goes hard

look out for the horse cock and balls in different weather, i never confirmed if they actually shrink in cold weather or not.

[–] Dolores@hexbear.net 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

cowboys always say yeehaw

if your game detects you not saying yeehaw when you lasso or drink a whiskey or shoot a gun the game logs you out and deletes your savegame

So far it's only detected "unknown error: fffffff" until I found a mod that fixed it
