the staying power of outdoor cats is remarkable

[–] Comp4@hexbear.net 27 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I know what must be done but that doesnt make it any easier.

Eradicate outdoor cats by adopting them and turning them into indoor cats meow-hug

If you wanna start an old strugglesession, post about the Falklands

[–] SeventyTwoTrillion@hexbear.net 19 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (5 children)

scrolling through island nations or provinces trying to find the best one to start struggle sessions over

Falklands, already done... Hawaii, we all agree... Taiwan also... how about... uh... Corsica?

[–] DefinitelyNotAPhone@hexbear.net 16 points 2 years ago

1200 hours of EU4 have prepared me for this moment.

Corsica obviously belongs to the Prusso-Mughal empire, and I'm backing it up with my total war CB.

Goddammit I thought I was gonna just scroll through Wikipedia to come up with some random bizarre historical claim about this peaceful little island, like saying we should re-establish Genoa and return it to them, but now you've got me actually going down a rabbit hole investigating the history of the FLNC.

I had no idea there was such a spicy group over there, or that there was even any conflict.

Give it to Niger as part of reparations. Aim some missiles at France and get Europe to stop fucking with Africa. Create the African Union and have some Soviet/Chinese-style turnaround.

Bold plan to give a landlocked country with no navy an overseas territory. At least consider Tunisia or Algeria first.

[–] Bruja@hexbear.net 15 points 2 years ago

Exactly. They'll never see it coming. Keeps them on their toes.
Giving Long Island to Mali next.
Pray the deal isn't altered further.

[–] usernamesaredifficul@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

it seems like it would be more helpful to give them agriculture equipment and money than an island they never had and probably don't even want full of people who don't think they're nigerien

[–] Bruja@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

Now Niger is getting Mayotte, Clipperton, Guiana, Polynesia, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Caledonia, Réunion, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Martin, Saint Pierre and Miquelon and Wallis and Futuna. Keep pushing and they're getting more islands.

I feel like there's a good one available about the Soviet occupation of Bornholm maybe.

You wanted a struggle session, you can't regret your choices now.

[–] dumpster_dove@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's cruel to kill all the outdoor cats, you're depriving the coyotes of a valuable food source.

[–] Tachanka@hexbear.net 11 points 2 years ago

la chew-tha-cat-bruh :kelly:

[–] Catradora_Stalinism@hexbear.net 14 points 2 years ago

They've been a plague driving native birds here to extinction. Even controlling pollution doesn't remove the threat they pose. If thats what it takes, its what has to be done.

[–] usernamesaredifficul@hexbear.net 12 points 2 years ago (3 children)

what if instead of exterminating the outdoor cats we rounded them all up and kept them indoors from then on

[–] redtea@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

How big does a roof have to be for the outdoors to be classed as indoors?

how long is a piece of string

[–] ButtBidet@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I hope this doesn't cause a struggle session. But animals shouldn't be bred for profit or a posh hobby when heaps of homeless cats and dogs exist.

[–] usernamesaredifficul@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

individuals adopting troubled animals isn't a good enough solution a lot of those animals have additional care requirements outside the capabilities of the average pet owner. What should be done is establish shelters with people actually trained to care for abused animals and make those shelters nice places.

[–] ButtBidet@hexbear.net 9 points 2 years ago

You're misunderstanding me. When people buy pets, they support an industry that creates homeless animals and destroys the pets once they're no longer young and cute.

[–] Galli@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

that's just a cat gulag

we need to respect the bird's agency in their own struggle and arm them against the cats

[–] alcoholicorn@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago

There's birds of prey that eat cats, but I think that'd be even worse for small bird populations.

[–] mah@hexbear.net 12 points 2 years ago

[–] pastalicious@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Hello I’m from the department of agriculture wildlife service, may I indiscriminately seed your land with small poison bombs instead of shooting the cats? It would be more… cost effective.

Edit: my friends from Australia would like to offer up their small poison spraying robot as a fun alternative. The thing we have to emphasize here is that paying PEOPLE to do it is absolutely out of the question!

[–] alcoholicorn@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

Cats are really good at hiding from people when they want to.

I feel like we'd have to train some kind of GPS-collared judas cat or mountain lion that can smell if there's a cat in the area.

[–] sawne128@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago

The wrong side won the outdoor cats struggle session.

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 15 points 2 years ago

Cats act like they own the place.

Therefore outdoor cats act like they own the outdoors.

The outdoors is the commons and belong to everyone.

Trying to own common property is bourgeois.

Outdoor cats are landlords.

QED.

[–] Russian_Bot_6969@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago

Cats are a part of the macro human organism. You can't have fields of grains and piles of trash without cats.

We maybe able organize differently and have less cats, but I don't see us getting to 0 cats. Die mad bird lovers! 🐈
