I bought a cheap router at a flea market and thought it would be good to do some shop shelves as a learner project. These are the rails for the shelves that slot into the legs with lap joints. I was going to drop some 2*4 spreaders in to the top and cut the grooves on the wrong goddamn face and now I have to redo them, and of course, don't have the material so I have to go to the fucking hardware store now

Diy rule of thumb, take the time estimate for completing a project and multiply it by 3... Or 12 lol

And materials budget for that matter

Always have an extra amount for material lost and unexpected expenses. You can never prepare for situations out of your control so the budget always needs to reflect that.

What the fuck did they cut this board with, a beaver?

[–] comrade_pibb@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago

They've just got a guy doing tae kwon do in the back splitting all the boards with his bare hands

Every good diy project requires at least 2 trips to the hardware store

Yeah I put together a greenhouse a few months back. Figured it would take me an afternoon. It ended up taking me and two other people five fucking days to complete.

My two hour shelf project is complete, eight hours later

And yes, in case you're wondering, they look like shit. But they will hold fertilizer.

i have no idea what you're talking about but i just tried to put some stick-on weatherstrips on the bottoms of our doors and i managed to fuck that all up so there's a big gap between the door and floor on one, one is so far down it takes superhuman strength to shut the door now, and the other is just patchwork covering little gaps in the other weatherstripping

im a real handyman
