I love how Putin talked shit about the instability of US democracy after the Jan 6 riot. Although it was admittedly a pretty embarrassing moment, it certainly wasn't a civil war. Enjoy that karma Putin

I mean, Jan 6 was a coup attempt, just a shitty one. Don't forget that the "riot" wasn't just a spur of the moment thing; it was orchestrated and planned with the "tours" the day before, the suspiciously small Capitol Police force on duty that day (compared e.g. to the BLM protests the summer before), the Secret Service attempt to get rid of Pence and subsequent coverup, etc.

[–] toasteecup@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I hadn't heard about the secret service and pence, have some more details on that?

[–] Bird_On_Biff@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Without looking anything up, some secret service guy told pence he needed to get in a car to be driven away to safety, which would mean he couldn't certify the election. Lucky he refused.

[–] linearchaos@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

That's because he was proud They more or less orchestrated that s***.

Can we have a rule about titles matching headlines?

Hopefully this is the end of the war and putin leaves Ukraine.

[–] Darnov@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hopefully it ends the war, Putin, and deals a serious blow to the global rise of fascism.

Lol. Who do you think controls Wagner group?

Hint: it's another fascist.

Only the biggest toughman rules russia.

[–] Darnov@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Well fuck.

Can’t we have something good for a change?

I’m sick of these fascists ruining everything.

[–] Icalasari@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

My hope is that Russia barely manages to defeat the Wagner group, then is left so weakened that their corrupt government completely collapses and real change can start

[–] intelati@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

This is the ideal outcome for Ukraine and the "West"

[–] Nomecks@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah, but he's against the war in Ukraine. If anything he would probably consolidate power for the next 10 years and leave the rest of the world alone.

[–] MortalWombat@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

Lol, because that's how Russian warlords operate. "No, it's cool, I'll just chill here and not invade anybody".

Prigozhin is as bad (if not worse) than Putin. The rest of the world would be no safer with him running Russia. Best-case scenario is that this bullshit destabilizes the country to the point that Putin is deposed, somebody rational takes the lead, and they agree to cease all operations in Ukraine in exchange for western assistance putting down the Wagner rebellion. It'll take all of a week to stomp out Wagner, if Russia allows the rest of the world to do it.

Fascist-on-fascist infighting is a good thing. Ideally, they would all annihilate each other and do less damage to everybody else.

Never interrupt an adversary while they're making mistakes.
