I remember that crysis 1 was basically impossible to run maxed out on any pc of the time. Even as better hardware came out, it still was super difficult to run at maxed settings on modern resolutions. What was the main cause of this? Was the graphics engine just that advanced? Poorly optimized? I remember a rumor that crytek was betting on cpus remaining single core, just being much faster and that's why the engine ran slow, but I have no idea how true that was.
