It crashes when opened. Deleted the App Store version, reinstalled- same thing. Tried the test version, same thing.

It’s completely broken now.

It works with my Subscribed and Local feeds. It crashes with the All feed. I’m guessing it has to do with a specific post that it tries to load.

Yep, same for me. It’s only on All that the issue is with. I made a post linking a screenshot of the particular post that was causing my crash each time.

It was the post at the bottom of my screenshot by the poster Woland that was crashing the app for me.

I can’t reproduce, what feed sort options do you have? I’d like to try to find this problematic posf

[–] Alien_Mortice@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

I have my All feed just sorted to post “Hot” and no other filters or anything.

Even though I blocked the user Woland, whose post was the one that always froze the app, I have subsequently had the app freeze and crash again, so I don’t really think it’s related to a specific post.

My last crash was just a few minutes ago but this coincided with lemmy.world down time, so it’s maybe just that crashing that’s bringing down the app.

Lemmy.world has been up and down all day today so maybe it’s that instead?

Maybe worth checking the other users as to which fediverse they’re on when theirs crashes as they can check the server status in settings?

Thanks, looks like fediverse@lemmy.world has the offending post. Gonna take a look and see if we can improve the error handling. Also an interesting thought, i didn’t think about lemmy.world going down could be the cause.

[–] Alien_Mortice@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

No problem mate. Hopefully what I gave you points you in the right direction to resolve the issue. Good luck.

[–] sgriff@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

Ugh can't even replicate it now. Maybe it was an issue with lemmy.world status. If that's the case then yea we are not handling something well to just tell the user it's down. Or maybe the post got removed, I'm not sure.

Mine won’t load the subscribed feed. Maybe a post in something I’m subscribed to but you’re not?

[–] ymhr@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

For me both Memmy AND bean crash when trying to load my subscribed feed, but Memmy can load all and local.

[–] C4d@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Hmmm. I might re-install, and also install a different iOS client and see what emerges.

[–] Alien_Mortice@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Could be mate. As I said in another post, it was a post in Memes by a poster called Woland that was the cause of my crash.

Maybe the same for you?

[–] C4d@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I don’t have that post in my feed; mine works now up until 9 hours ago; there has to be a post submitted around that time that is causing this.

[–] Alien_Mortice@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Mine’s just crashed again in All feed.

I’m suspecting that it’s the length of my scrolling that’s causing the eventual crash rather than a specific post as it happens when I get far down the page.

[–] C4d@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Hmmm. The last post that is visible to me at the point of the crash is the one about Mozilla finances; I’m wondering if the Canvas Timelapse one is the problem (just speculation - cannot prove it).

I’m using the most recent Memmy testflight version on iPhone and this is the post that was causing the crash for me:

When you try to scroll down it was sticking at this same post each time and taking down the app. I ended up blocking the user to see if it let me scroll and it started working again. However, it just froze on another post, so don’t know if there are several posts the app isn’t liking or it’s something else, but the fact I was able to replicate the same fault with the same post each time would suggest it’s the post itself that’s the problem.

It still works for me. But I’m using the TestFlight version.

[–] Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyz 7 points 2 years ago

Can confirm. It’s broken. That’s exactly why I have 4 Lemmy clients and I’m about to install a fifth one.

[–] hakdragon@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

It’s working for me. App Store v 0.5.1 (1)

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Same, maybe it’s only an issue on Android?

[–] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Not an Android only issue, I have the same problem and got an iPhone.

It occasionally crashes or freezes but overall works though.

[–] Veraticus@lib.lgbt 5 points 2 years ago

I just realized this too. Depressing.

A post is causing a null reference exception. It appears to be a recent post in !fediverse@lemmy.world. Workaround is to temporarily unsub.

This appears to be the offending post: lemmy.world/post/2736972

I think there’s a bad NULL check somewhere

TestFlight version 0.6.0 (2) working great. No crashes at all. Very strange.

[–] C4d@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Crashes on startup for me. Seems random but can’t be. What’s up?

[–] C4d@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Update: issue has gone for me now. No idea of the specific aetiology.

Update: no, scratch that - it was loading my All feed. Subscribed feed still results in a crash.

[–] nyakojiru@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 years ago
[–] reddwarf 1 points 2 years ago

Same here. Seemed to work after reinstalling but the moment I sorted on Subscribed, it becomes completely useless. This needs to be fixed or I will need to find some other app. What a waste of time on such basic failure in the app.

[–] darmabum@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Yep, was fine a while ago, now just started crash on exit, feed empty. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling from App Store (iOS), but same problem. Beachball spins for a few seconds, menus are unusable, then exits.
