Drugsland Nederland heeft schuld aan geweldsexplosie Ecuador, zeggen experts (nos.nl)

Ecuador is verreweg het belangrijkste herkomstland van onderschepte cocaïne in de haven van Rotterdam, wat op zijn beurt een belangrijke doorvoerhaven is van cocaïne voor Europa. Avila denkt dat afspraken tussen Nederland en Ecuador, zoals het recent gesloten douaneverdrag, kunnen helpen om drugssmokkel tegen te gaan.

Maar, zegt Avila, zo lang de vraag in Amerika en Europa hoog blijft en cocaïne veel geld oplevert "is het naïef om te denken dat de problemen in een paar maanden kunnen worden opgelost".

Nederlanders zijn zich daar te weinig van bewust, vindt arts Van der Linden. "In Nederland is drugs natuurlijk iets om een gezellig feestje te hebben. Maar er zit veel meer achter. Heel veel verdriet, heel veel geweld, heel veel problemen."

Artikel van 2015, maar toch misschien nuttig:

London has Europe’s highest concentration of cocaine in sewage, research shows.

Experts said the UK capital was slightly ahead of Amsterdam, with the EU’s drug agency putting the average daily concentration of cocaine in London’s waste water at 737mg per 1,000 people in 2014.

This was the highest level found in an analysis of more than 50 cities. However, the capital fell behind Amsterdam when taking into account weekend samples only.

Werken in de city in Londen is bizar stressvol met enorme werkdruk dus daar zal cocaïnegebruik onder bankieren heel hoog zijn. Maar aangezien Amsterdam een hogere concentratie heeft in de weekenden lijkt het me hier vooral iets voor feesten. Misschien is het in de zuidas doordeweeks ook hoog.

Nederland lijkt wel echt een uitschieter in Europa qua cocaïnegebruik.

Oh en geen cocaïne maar dit stukje vond ik ook wel frappant:

The amount of MDMA, which is known to be more commonly used in most of Europe than crystal meth, found in London’s wastewater fell from 55mg in 2015, the last year for which there was data, to 50mg in 2019. Across Europe, the highest concentration was recorded in Utrecht, at 129mg.

Dus we zitten in Nederland gewoon heel veel drugs te consumeren, volgens mij kunnen we dat wel stellen.
