Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

I don't have a downvote button. I disabled seeing downvotes as a whole as they were massively misused and not super helpful.
I downvoted your comment because it's doesn't really add anything to the conversation, it's just aggressive virtue signalling.
I disagree as it's still on topic and to do with the down vote button, but that's your merit, I can't see it ^^'
from my POV it only re-enforces my point that it's misused more than not and not a reliable metric to use, and the option to just not use them as a whole is there.
Did he edit the post? I don't see the aggression, and being virtuous and expressing it isn't something to criticise, lol, it's not like they're some hypocritical politician (not that I saw that here either). But if you were just making a joke, my bad!
Aggressive is modifying "virtue signaling". I guess I could have been more clear by adding an "ly" to make it clear that aggressive was an adverb.
But, honestly in my experience there is ALWAYS someone finding some new way to understand your comment so that they have something to argue with. I was both making a joke AND making a point. Complicated, I know.
And it is something to criticize: OP asked about "X", commenter replied about NOT "X".
Meh, "not X" is still part of the conversation. 🤷
I must downvote once for every 5/10 replies I make. If I really disagree with you, why wouldn't I publicly show how wrong you are? I can't let my peers be misguided when I can avoid it!
