All I see is:
“It’s the leopard’s fault it ate my face, not that I should have been a better judge of character”
Honestly it's an unreasonable expectation to expect all voters to be excellent judges of character, or even understanding enough about practicalities to identify the better of two bad options. Even if these people had access to better information, would they process it correctly? I can be somewhat understanding of folks who were tricked by these lies given the context that they live in.
Maybe the first time, not twice.
