Not exactly related (although it's possible the feds will recruit them or they'll do it of their own accord), but how far could any socialist (even a demsoc) take their agenda with the NYPD threatening them? They're better funded than many armies and they're full of chuds, I can't imagine how easy it would be for them to kill the mayor or allow a shooter to get him or his family. I almost feel like he'll need his own security guards, which seems unrealistic given the magnitude of the force against him.
I remember wondering about this during the George Floyd protests in 2020 because some mayors, who may have been somewhat sympathetic otherwise, seemed trapped by very threatening looking pigs who were always flanking them during speeches or appearances. Seems like a huge problem to deal when it comes to making this country even slightly better at a local level, lmao

Cut overtime, cut equipment funding, "special assignments" that aren't on the street, close the international offices, no increase in headcount, no increase, or possibly a decrease in overall budget, etc...
These things are all "defunding the police" and directing resources to actually useful city services, but he's doing it the slow and kinda centeristy way (NYC centrist, so between liberal and socialist) so that NYC lib voters don't have a reason to lose their minds since he's clearly said "you will have the same number of officers in the department". Ofc national media will smear all they want but he can just say that over and over again to the people he's actually trying to get votes from and grind out his victory. I

You should try to get communists in there it worked for Czechoslovakia post WW2, the partisans supplanted the police and couped the liberals. It's even easier to vet people now just dig into their social media

This won't happen, but theoretically you would work with left-wing groups to get the word out while maintaining plausible deniability in public. You would also need to purge the higher ranks first and replace them with people you already have selected and allow them time to get the infrastructure in place to make the selection process ideologically sound. But yeah that's a multi year process and the entire power of the political machine would be pushing against you.
Tell them they will have the full backing of the NYPD and the city to go stop-and-frisk, harass, and physically intimidate suspiciously wealthy-looking people walking around Wall Street.
