Bulletins and News Discussion from June 23rd to June 29th, 2025 - Iran, Harden Your Deep Military Sites

Now in our second week of the conflict, we have seen continuing damage to both Israel and Iran, as well as direct US intervention which nonetheless seems to have caused limited damage to Fordow and little damage to Iran's nuclear program. Regime change seems more elusive than ever, as even Iranians previously critical of the government now rally around it as they are attacked by two rabid imperialists at once. And Iran's government is tentatively considering a withdrawal, or at minimum a reconsideration, of their membership to the IAEA and the NPT. And, of course, the Strait of Hormuz is still a tool in their arsenal.
A day or so on from the strike on Fordow, we have so far seen basically no change in strategy from the Iranian military as they continue to strike Israel with small barrages of missiles. Military analysts argue furiously - is this a deliberate strategy of steady attrition on Israel, or indicative of immense material constraints on Iran? Are the hits by Israel on real targets, or are they decoys? Does Iran wish to develop a nuke, or are they still hesitating? Will Iran and Yemen strike at US warships and bases in response to the attack, or will they merely continue striking only Israel?
And perhaps most importantly - will this conflict end diplomatically due to a lack of appetite for an extended war (to wit: not a peace but a 20 year armistice) or with Israel forced into major concessions including an end to their genocide? Or even with a total military/societal collapse of either side?

While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Hey if that's what they are going for, it is likely better for Iran. Let them think they are years out, better than pushing for more immediate strikes

Yeah, without any tangible evidence of said "commando operations" this just feels like cope. We all saw how commandos worked out in Gaza and they got their shit kicked in. I have a hard time believing that they did some James Bond-esque infiltration of Iranian nuclear sites and primed every centrifuge to self-destruct or whatever they could possibly be talking about.
Against surface facilities there were some successful covert operations in the past I believe, but now that everything important is underground, I can't imagine there's much you could even do. That's why Israel and the US had to attempt this in the first place: the era of doing stuxnet shit and slamming drones into surface facilities was over, and a more dangerous military campaign was required with gigantic bombs to even try and breach them. If Israel could have achieved lasting damage to Iran with just covert commando operations then they would have just done that, no need to start a war and attempt forceful strikes on nuclear facilities.
With the reference to operational freedom, I think Israel is referring to the Mossad assets/commandos that blew up key bits of Iranian defence infrastructure and carried out assassinations using spike missiles and drones in the first hours of the war. Don't think this is in reference to the nuclear facility attacks.
I mean, one way to bomb knowledge is to murder entire teams of scientists and other personnel, which was an essential part of israel's attacks against Iran.
For obvious reasons, most of the discussion is about the damage that Iran did or did not experience due to america's attacks, but it leaves me wondering how the killing of so many Iranian experts and other people working on their nuclear projects will affect their development.
They got a few officially, but how many are there? how many died?
the nuclear program has a LOT of people behind it. Iran has the third highest number of engineering graduates in the world, fifth in STEM. Cant find statistics on nuclear physics/engineering but point being the knowledge goes deep.
To that question, I really have no clue, and I'm not sure if anybody claiming to know is telling the full truth
I'd like to think that the knowledge and capability is diffused enough for Iran to keep up their development despite their losses. I've been having a hell of a time trying to navigate all of the uncertainty - seeing through the impossibly thick fog of war - when actors on all sides are bluffing, telling half truths, withholding truths, or straight up lying.
Oh absolutely, it's going to be impossible to make sense of this mess for years to come.
