Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Image is of the damage caused by an Iranian Kheibar Shekan ballistic missile in Israel, causing dozens of injuries.

Now in our second week of the conflict, we have seen continuing damage to both Israel and Iran, as well as direct US intervention which nonetheless seems to have caused limited damage to Fordow and little damage to Iran's nuclear program. Regime change seems more elusive than ever, as even Iranians previously critical of the government now rally around it as they are attacked by two rabid imperialists at once. And Iran's government is tentatively considering a withdrawal, or at minimum a reconsideration, of their membership to the IAEA and the NPT. And, of course, the Strait of Hormuz is still a tool in their arsenal.

A day or so on from the strike on Fordow, we have so far seen basically no change in strategy from the Iranian military as they continue to strike Israel with small barrages of missiles. Military analysts argue furiously - is this a deliberate strategy of steady attrition on Israel, or indicative of immense material constraints on Iran? Are the hits by Israel on real targets, or are they decoys? Does Iran wish to develop a nuke, or are they still hesitating? Will Iran and Yemen strike at US warships and bases in response to the attack, or will they merely continue striking only Israel?

And perhaps most importantly - will this conflict end diplomatically due to a lack of appetite for an extended war (to wit: not a peace but a 20 year armistice) or with Israel forced into major concessions including an end to their genocide? Or even with a total military/societal collapse of either side?

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Alhamdulillah they got the APC footage. Video ~~coming shortly~~ on TankieTube

Military correspondent for Israel's Channel 14 Hillel Biton-Rosen, citing a senior Israeli officer talking about the Khan Yunis ambush:

"The documentation is shameful, and to say the least, it does not add dignity to the IDF. The division commander was required, according to training, to run over the militants if they got too close, or at least shoot them with the machine gun on the Namer armored vehicle. This is not how a high-ranking officer is expected to behave on the battlefield."

During the second Intifada, the Brigades developed the manufacture of hand grenades, which went through many stages, as well as anti-personnel and anti-vehicle explosive devices called "Shawaz." The first model of Shawaz contained 40 kilograms of explosive materials, and Al-Qassam Brigades later introduced modifications to it, developing approximately seven generations of it. The most recent version, which contains 3.5 kilograms of highly explosive materials, is capable of penetrating about 40 centimeters of iron. The last version of Shawaz was tested on 9 pieces of iron, each of them 5 centimeters thick, at a distance of about 60 centimeters, which means it would be able to penetrate the Israeli-made Merkava tank.(84).

40 centimeters of iron.

holy fuck, I have no idea if 3.5kg of explosives is a lot, but I absolutely know that 40cm of iron is A LOT of iron

Modern tank armour uses composite materials and steel that is likely not accessible to Gazan engineers. BUT there's only so much armour you can strap onto something that moves, and only so much that'll protect you if a massive explosion against your armour creats a blast of pressure that turns you into soup

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

google "armor spalling," explosions will turn the interior side of the armor into a shotgun blast long before they can actually rip though the armor

[–] faiz_ahmad_faiz@hexbear.net 23 points 3 days ago

Shawaz [meaning flame in Arabic] looks to be similar to similar devices that were used by the Iraqi resistance against the US forces during their occupation of the country and against Israeli forces in South Lebanon before the year 2000 as well as in Gaza, indicating a possible growing collaboration between various parties in the Axis of resistance.

It’s called a “Shawaz” let me see if I can rustle up some info. They’ve been used in some iconic attacks, both as pre planted IEDs and close-up armor busters where resistance fighters run basically directly at the vehicles

[–] Gucci_Minh@hexbear.net 19 points 3 days ago

Given the shape and the description in the wiki link in the other comment, there are variants of it such as explosively formed penetrator, shaped charge, or fragmentation warheads. This one looked kind of like the EFP version given the cone shape, which isn't optimal for anti-personnel use but in a confined space like an APC would have killed everyone inside just by the blast alone.

so fucking badass

but also lol the demons are still so terrible at this, may they continue to learn absolutely nothing

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 27 points 3 days ago

They're so cowardly that they wont patrol outside their armoured vehicles, which in turns makes them blind to almost everything around them.

Things I care more about the zionist cowards who got to become permanent residents of the gaza strip:

  • how clean that fridge was at the end, depsite being 3ft from a wall that was blown out by an airstrike
