As someone who's used Xiaomi for years and years, had a Pixel too - the only thing that it doesn't beat western stuff with is cameras.

Unfortunately it is definitely true that iPhones take the nicest pictures - sure, sure, show me your best Samsung or Huawei images, or the highly regarded Pixel camera software - maybe you can capture the occasional landscape better - but pound for pound none of the phones I've ever had have taken nicer pictures than my partners outdated iPhone. Very annoying.

No phone takes good pictures though. If you zoom in they're a blurry, machine-learning "enhanced" mess.

Nothing beats an actual camera.

turns out the laws of physics (a larger lens) trumps software enhancement every time

I have an Olympus XZ-1, with the f/1.8 equivalent lens, and while it's not good at everything and has a small (very small, nowadays) 10 mp sensor, there is stuff it's still way better at than any smartphone camera. You don't get any bokeh on a phone after all! Phones just aren't getting a ~2" diameter lens any time soon, and there is no substitute for more glass.

Ah yea, real lenses can be biig.

Pretty sure ive seen Xiaomi phones with stats that btfo western shit, something like a 200mp camera with a Zeiss manufactured lens and shit

Yeah there are Ultra flagships with fucking giant cameras

Yes as many brands have, but it's the post processing that Apple have down to an art it seems.

the nerd blog I was looking at pics in had direct comparisons with the x200 pro and the iphone 16 pro or whatever and the x200 was way better imo except at the very end it had the worst "shutter" delay

Interesting, yeah now that I look it up apparently Apple fucked their newest camera software with a new feature that you cant turn off. Maybe theyll fix it.

Iphone pictures are mostly software. I'm sure they'll get there eventually.

Yes, hopefully

In the last year or two Xiaomi have come out with a couple of very good cameras in their phones

Plus they charge at about the same wattage as an electric vehicle
