I've had pets get sick over time and pass away, it was difficult of course, but the dog I had that died in the prime of his life out of nowhere still makes me cry to think about. I'm sorry your family is going through that.
As far as games, somewhat related to emotional difficulty, I can't stop playing Mordhau still. It feels like it connects to something primal in me, I scream constantly and decapitate enemies surrounded by other screaming warriors. But you don't have to take it seriously, you can just go dance with the bard or do emotes with the enemies at their castle unarmed.
It's the only PVP game I've seen where if you just walk around with no weapon and wave to people a lot of enemies won't even attack you lol.
