8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners.
The auto mod will contact you if a link shortener is detected, please delete your post if they are right.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

One of the cooks downstairs went on a rant the other day about how they're willing to risk their lives to defend their country why can't everybody just shut up and let them do it. Hyped up the whole damn cafeteria talking about their lgbt loved ones and how if you can't even bring yourself to love someone how they are you at least need to mind your business. t's nice hearing some ranting in that direction for once.
Maybe try to have some hype sessions like this about your duty to ignore illegal orders.

I mean you're not... literally wrong. There's a lot about the use of the US military that is fucked. But there's a lot else they currently do or even could be doing if some reforms happened that would be more helpful than the shitty things they do. But most importantly, your bringing it up here only serves to derail a different discussion that is important in its own right, and that this thread was created to discuss. The most important thing is that you're not helping.
Nothing the US military is currently doing is more helpful than the almost five million deaths they caused throughout the war on terror or the horrific genocide with 200k+ deaths that they're supporting, but I digress.
You make a fair point but consider: The social current that Trump was able to get elected twice by riding was created most directly by the war on terror and the subsequent rise of American chauvinism and nationalism. This sort of glorification of the military has to be shut down hard or you'll either fail to get rid of Trump or get Trump 2.0. This sort of jingoist attitude (see: the other guy who replied to me) is very much at the root of Trump's fascist takeover, and needs to be removed root and branch before anyone can hope for anything resembling a better tomorrow (or, to tie into the OP, for trans people to not be thrown into concentration camps).
The Army Corps of Engineers is pretty cool... But yeah, doesn't balance it out
US militaries number 1 strong point is logistics. Putting the full force of that behind disaster relief would be astounding
Please tell us more about how you don't consider their service a benefit to this country.
Do I really need to explain why the US war machine doesn't defend anyone other than US oligarchs' money and occasionally Israel? Hint: The war on terror.
