Is it really a dismissal level event? I mean, everyone sees how the world is turning....he just said it out loud.

Every expert interviewed has said the same, that it was indeed a fireable offence. Someone holding this position is expected to put politics aside and represent the interests and views of NZ, not smack talk the leader of another country, regardless of how justified that is.

smack talk

Nice! 90's throw back

From the article

That award goes to Caroline Beresford, who as New Zealand’s deputy head of mission to the US in 2018 sent a despairing message to the Democratic Party on Twitter: “Please get your shit together or we will all die.” Peters was the foreign minister then but did not intervene

So talking shit, is not always punished...it is just punished when referring to Trump?

There is a difference in severity between a tweet and a remark made on stage to an audience.

[–] absGeekNZ@lemmy.nz 5 points 3 months ago

One could easily argue that the audience for a tweet is significantly larger than whilst on stage.

[–] BalpeenHammer@lemmy.nz 2 points 3 months ago

Tweet is viewed by worldwide by billions of people, this press conference probably had less than a hundred thousand views.

What makes you think his words did not represent the interests and views of NZ?

Probably in the intrest of not wanting to be tarrifed by our second largest trading partner.

It's a mistake to be financially dependent on an unstable government like the USA. We must continue to sign free trade deals with other BRICS countries and reduce our dependency on the USA.

What's really disappointing is that the EU trade deal hasn't resulted in a significant increase in trade with them.
