I agree they dont want to build another canal. Just having Gaza as a US military base so close to the existing one is all they want. Theyd functionally control it. Plus they want Gaza for its natural gas. They want a pipeline thru north gaza from the gulf states for oil, and natural has wells off the Gaza coast and then theyd turn it into a massive oil and gas export hub to supply europe with. Letting American companies get the profits. This would also allow them to bypass the Strait of Hormuz which Iran controls.
