I know it's purely theoretical but If Trump were just a tiny bit less vain - he'd do better in situations like this because he'd take advice and not trust his gut 100% of time. But the tradeoff would be he'd lose some of the essential Trumpness that helped him win in 2016 and that helps keep his hogs and his party under his spell.

He's like a MMA ex-world champ who only has one speed - hyper-aggressive.
